Claims
- 1. A method for tracking repair histories, comprising:
providing a field replaceable unit having a memory device; collecting temperature data during the operation of the field replaceable unit, the temperature data representing a temperature of the field replaceable unit during operation; and storing the temperature data in the memory device.
- 2. The method of 1, wherein storing the temperature data further comprises storing a temperature history histogram.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein storing the temperature history histogram further comprises:
defining a plurality of temperature buckets, each bucket including a predetermined range of temperatures; receiving a temperature measurement; and incrementing a count associated with the temperature bucket having the predetermined range encompassing the temperature measurement.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein receiving the temperature measurement further comprises receiving the temperature measurement at a predetermined interval.
- 5. The method of claim 2, wherein storing the temperature data further comprises:
aggregating the temperature history histogram with a cumulative temperature histogram; and clearing the temperature history histogram.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the aggregating and the clearing are performed during a repair of the field replaceable unit.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein storing the temperature data comprises storing a highest detected temperature and a lowest detected temperature.
- 8. The method of claim 1 further comprising:
collecting additional operational history data during operation of the field replaceable unit; and storing the operation history data in the memory device.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein storing the operational history data further comprises storing power data.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein storing the power data further comprises storing a plurality of power event records.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein storing a plurality of power event records further comprises storing power event records associated with at least one of a power on event, a power off event, and a still on event.
- 12. The method of claim 9, wherein storing the power data further comprises storing a power summary record.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein storing the power summary record further comprises storing a duration field specifying the total time the field replaceable unit has been powered on.
- 14. The method of claim 12, wherein storing the power summary record further comprises storing at least one of a power on count and a power off count.
- 15. The method of claim 12, wherein storing the power data further comprises:
aggregating the power summary record with a cumulative power summary record; and clearing the power summary record.
- 16. The method of claim 15, further comprising aggregating the power summary record and clearing the power summary record associated with a repair of the field replaceable unit.
- 17. The method of claim 8, wherein storing the operational history data further comprises storing error data associated with the operation of the field replaceable unit.
- 18. The method of 17, wherein storing the error data further comprises storing a plurality of error event records.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein storing the error event records further comprises storing a component field and an error code associated with each error event record.
- 20. The method of claim 19, wherein storing the error event records further comprises storing a syndrome field associated with the number of errant bits associated with the error event record.
- 21. The method of claim 19, wherein storing the error event records further comprises storing a syndrome field indicating at least one of a faulty pin number and a faulty data bit number associated with the error event record.
- 22. A computing system comprising:
a field replaceable unit including a memory device configured to store temperature data indicative of a temperature of the field replaceable unit; and a processing device configured to collect the temperature data and store the temperature data in the memory device.
- 23. The system of claim 22, wherein the system further comprises at least one temperature sensor associated with the field replaceable unit, and the processing device is configured to receive temperature measurements from the temperature sensor.
- 24. The system of 22, wherein the temperature data further comprises a temperature history histogram.
- 25. The system of claim 24, wherein the temperature history histogram further comprises a plurality of temperature buckets, each bucket including a predetermined range of temperatures, and a count associated with each temperature bucket.
- 26. The system of claim 25, wherein the temperature data further comprises a cumulative temperature histogram including an aggregation of a plurality of temperature histograms.
- 27. The system of claim 22 wherein the temperature data further includes a highest detected temperature and a lowest detected temperature.
- 28. The system of claim 22, wherein the processing device is further configured to collect additional operational history data and store the operational history data in the memory device.
- 29. The system of claim 28, wherein the operational history data further comprises power data.
- 30. The system of 29, wherein the power data further comprises a plurality of power event records.
- 31. The system of claim 30, wherein each power event record is associated with at least one of a power on event, a power off event, and a still on event.
- 32. The system of claim 29, wherein the power data further comprises a power summary record.
- 33. The system of claim 32, wherein the power summary record further comprises a duration field specifying the total time the field replaceable unit has been powered on.
- 34. The system of claim 32, wherein the power summary record further comprises at least one of a power on count and a power off count.
- 35. The system of claim 32, wherein the power data further comprises a cumulative power summary record including an aggregation of a plurality of power summary records.
- 36. The system of claim 28, wherein the operational history data further comprises error data associated with the operation of the field replaceable unit.
- 37. The system of claim 28, wherein the operational history data further comprises error data associated with the operation of the field replaceable unit, and the processing device is configured to receive error data and store the error data in the memory device.
- 38. The system of 37, wherein the error data further comprises a plurality of error event records.
- 39. The system of claim 38, wherein each of the error event records further comprises a component field and an error code.
- 40. The system of claim 38, wherein each of the error event records further comprises a syndrome field associated with the number of errant bits.
- 41. The system of claim 38, wherein each of the error event records further comprises a syndrome field indicating at least one of a faulty pin number and a faulty data bit number.
- 42. A system, comprising:
a field replaceable unit having a memory device; means for collecting temperature data during the operation of the field replaceable unit, the temperature data representing a temperature of the field replaceable unit during operation; and means for storing the temperature data in the memory device.
