Claims
- 1. A process for abating chemical pollutants in a pollutant-containing gas stream comprising the steps of introducing said gas stream into a reaction chamber through a pre-reaction section comprising at least one conduit accommodating at least one secondary inlet for introducing at least one additional gas, liquid and/or solid into said pre-reaction section;introducing said additional gas, liquid and/or solid into said secondary inlet; causing a reaction of said gas stream with said additional gas, liquid and/or solid by mixing and, optionally, heating, to form a precursor reactive stream; introducing said precursor reactive stream into said reaction chamber and causing pollutant-abating reaction in said chamber at a reaction temperature within a temperature range of from about 650° C. to about 950° C.
- 2. A process according to claim 1 further comprising the steps of expelling gases from said reaction chamber through a liquid vortex.
- 3. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises hydrogen.
- 4. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises ammonia.
- 5. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises air.
- 6. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises oxygen.
- 7. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises ammonia and oxygen.
- 8. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises ammonia and air.
- 9. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises water vapor.
- 10. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises an alcohol.
- 11. A process according to claim 10, wherein said additional gas comprises methanol.
- 12. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises an ether.
- 13. A process according to claim 12, wherein said ether comprises dimethyl ether.
- 14. A process according to claim 1, wherein said additional gas comprises an amine.
- 15. A process according to claim 1 wherein said additional gas further comprises a hydrocarbon.
- 16. A process according to claim 14, wherein said amine comprises methylamine.
- 17. A process according to claim 1, wherein NOx is a pollutant abated in said stream.
- 18. A process according to claim 1, wherein said reaction temperature is within a temperature range of from about 700° C. to about 840° C.
- 19. A process according to claim 1, wherein said reaction of said gas stream with said additional gas is at a temperature of about 850° C.
