Claims
- 1. A method for applying a carbon coating to an optical waveguide fiber being drawn on a drawing apparatus, comprising the steps of:
- (a) heating an end of a preform in a draw furnace,
- (b) drawing the fiber from said end of the preform,
- (c) introducing the fiber to a reactor vessel comprising walls while supplying the reactor vessel with a reactant gas flow comprising a reactant gas, said reactant gas comprising carbon,
- (d) forming the carbon coating on the fiber by decomposition of said reactant gas, wherein the reactor vessel walls are comprised of aluminum.
