Claims
- 1. A method for removing metal salt compound deposits, comprising delivering a composition comprising an algin to an environment in which the metal salt compound deposits are present.
- 2. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the algin comprises alginic acid.
- 3. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the algin comprises a salt of alginic acid.
- 4. The method as claimed in claim 3, wherein the algin comprises an alkali metal alginate.
- 5. The method as claimed in claim 4, wherein the algin comprises potassium alginate.
- 6. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the composition comprises an aqueous composition containing more than one algin, wherein the total algin content is up to about 5 wt % of the composition.
- 7. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the composition comprises an algin and an acid, wherein the acid is not alginic acid.
- 8. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the composition has a pH in a range of about 2 to about 6.
- 9. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the acid comprises an organic acid.
- 10. The method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the acid comprises citric acid.
- 11. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the composition comprises alginic acid and a salt of alginic acid.
- 12. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the composition is alkaline in pH.
- 13. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the composition includes a colorant or opacifier to disclose a deposit or to mask a deposit.
- 14. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the metal salt compound deposits comprise divalent metal salt species.
- 15. The method as claimed in claim 14, wherein the divalent metal salt species comprise calcium salt species.
- 16. In a method of machine washing clothes, the improvement comprising employing an algin to remove divalent metal salt species from the wash water, the algin being present throughout the washing.
