Claims
- 1. A method for removing alkaline earth and transition metal scale deposits in pipes, vessels, heat exchanges, evaporators, and filters; said method comprising treating alkaline earth and transitional metal scale deposits in pipes, vessels, heat exchanges, evaporators, or filters with a scale removing effective amount of an aqueous solution of 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof having a pH of less than about 5.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof is used in an amount of from about 0.1 to about 50 percent by weight based on the weight of the aqueous solution.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof is used in an amount of from about 1 to about 30 percent by weight based on the weight of the aqueous solution.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof is used in an amount of from about 1 to about 20 percent by weight based on the weight of the aqueous solution.
- 5. The method of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the scale deposits comprise one or more alkaline earth metals.
- 6. The method of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the scale deposits comprise calcium.
- 7. The method of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the scale deposits comprise magnesium.
- 8. The method of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the scale deposits comprise one or more transition metals.
- 9. The method of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the scale deposits comprise iron.
- 10. A method for removing alkaline earth metal scaling in oil field wells during drilling, production, or recovery operation; said method comprising introducing a scale removing effective amount of an aqueous solution of 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof having a pH of less than about 5 into an oil field well during drilling, production, or recovery operation.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof is introduced into an oil field well during drilling, production, or recovery operation in an amount of from about 0.1 to about 50 weight percent based on the weight of the aqueous solution.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein the amount of 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof introduced into an oil field well during drilling, production, or recovery operation is from about 1 to about 40 weight percent based on the weight of the aqueous solution.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein the amount of 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof introduced into an oil field well during drilling, production, or recovery operation is from about 2 to about 20 weight percent based on the weight of the aqueous solution.
- 14. The method of any one of claims 10 to 13 wherein the alkaline earth metal scaling comprises calcium and magnesium.
- 15. The method of any one of claims 10 to 13 wherein the alkaline earth metal scaling comprises calcium.
- 16. The method of any one of claims 10 to 13 wherein the alkaline metal scaling comprises magnesium.
