Claims
- 1. A method for cooling hot coke and generating superheated high pressure steam comprising:
- passing cooling gases upwardly through hot coke in a coke cooling chamber to cool the coke and heat the cooling gases;
- passing the heated cooling gases into an upper end of a waste heat boiler and downwardly therethrough to an exhaust outlet at a lower end of the boiler to generate vapor therein and cool the heated cooling gases;
- delivering the vapor from the waste heat boiler to a separate superheater to produce superheated hgh pressure steam, said superheater being heated by hot combustion gases fed thereto from an external combustion chamber having a burner fired with air, an extaneous gas supply and a portion of the cooled cooling gases exhausted from the boiler; and
- delivering the combustion gases exhausted from the separate superheater to the waste heat boiler to provide additional heat to the heated cooling gases for generating vapor therein.
- 2. Method of claim 1 wherein another portion of the cooled cooling gases is delivered back to the coke cooling chamber for cooling hot coke.
- 3. Method of claim 1 wherein said superheater is operated to superheat the vapor to steam at a temperature of from 280.degree. to 600.degree. C.
- 4. Method of claim 1 wherein at least a portion of the combustion gases exhausted from said superheater is delivered to an upper portion of said boiler.
- 5. Method of claim 4 wherein said superheater is operated to superheat the vapor to steam at a temperature of from 280.degree. to 600.degree. C., another portion of the cooled gases cooling is delivered back to the coke cooling chamber for cooling hot coke.
- 6. Method of claim 5 including removing fine dust from the cooled cooling gases after leaving the exhaust of said boiler and before said portion of the cooled cooling gases is used to fire said burner.
