Claims
- 1. A method for predicting organ transplant rejection, said method comprising:
- obtaining a sample of peripheral blood leukocytes from an organ transplant recipient;
- exposing said peripheral blood leukocytes to allogeneic peripheral blood leukocytes expressing HLA alloantigens, said allogeneic peripheral blood leukocytes having been depleted of antigen-presenting cells; and
- measuring the production of IL-2 by the CD4.sup.+ T helper cells of said peripheral blood leukocytes in response to said allogeneic peripheral blood leukocytes;
- wherein:
- non-responsiveness by the CD4.sup.+ T helper cells of said peripheral blood leukocytes being predictive of non-rejection of organ transplant; and
- responsiveness by the CD4.sup.+ T helper cells of said peripheral blood leukocytes being predictive of acute or chronic organ transplant rejection.
