Claims
- 1. An apparatus for determining a sensitivity of a nonparaffinophilic hydrophobic microorganism to an antimicrobial agent comprising:
- a receptacle containing (i) an aqueous broth including a carbon source; (ii) an amount of antimicrobial agent to be tested; and (iii) said nonparaffinophilic hydrophobic microorganism; and
- a slide coated with a hydrophobic material, said slide being adapted to being placed in said receptacle, whereby observation of growth of said nonparaffinophilic hydrophobic microorganism on said slide can be used to determine a concentration of said antimicrobial agent necessary to resist said growth of said nonparaffinophilic hydrophobic microorganism on said slide.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said nonparaffinophilic hydrophobic microorganism is selected from the group consisting of M. tuberculosis complex, M. paratuberculosis, M. leprae, pseudomonads, and nocardial species.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, including
- a plurality of receptacles containing (i) an aqueous broth including a carbon source; (ii) an amount of antimicrobial agent to be tested; and (iii) said nonparaffinophilic hydrophobic microorganism; and
- a plurality of slides each coated with a hydrophobic material, each of which is adapted to being placed in one of said receptacles.
