Claims
- 1. A method of activating a link within a hypertext document, the method comprising:
retrieving a hypertext document with a link; determining that said link would be visible in a display; dynamically associating said link with a character; displaying said hypertext document in said display with said character depicted proximately to said link; and wherein selecting said character outside said display automatically activates said link.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said character is selected from a set of characters, wherein said set of characters is selected from any one of the groups consisting of: numeric digits, alphanumeric characters, phone key pad characters, computer keyboard characters, and stylus-generated characters.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein a plurality of distinct links are dynamically associated with a plurality of distinct characters, and wherein selecting one of said distinct characters automatically activates the link associated with said one of said distinct characters.
- 4. The method of claim 1 further comprising scrolling said hypertext document in said display; dynamically reassociating links visible in said display with a distinct character; and displaying each distinct character proximate to each associated link.
- 5. The method of claim 3 wherein said distinct characters are associated with a first set of links visible in said display; and, in response to reassociation request, reassociating said distinct characters with a second set of links visible in said display.
- 6. The method of claim 3 wherein said hypertext documents includes additional instructions regarding said distinct characters.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein said additional instructions are directed to the association of a distinct character with a link.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein said additional instructions are directed to the display characteristics of said distinct characters.
- 9. The method of claim 3 further comprising selecting a form field in said depicting hypertext document; and hiding the display of each of said distinct links with their associated distinct characters.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein said form field is also associated with a specific character; and wherein said form field is selected by selecting said specific character.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein said link is of a type selected from the group of types consisting of: text links, image links, hidden-links, and image map links.
- 12. The method of claim 3 further comprising toggling the display of said distinct characters.
- 13. A computer readable medium comprising computer executable instructions for performing the method of any of claims 1-12.
- 14. A computing apparatus having a processor and a memory comprising computer executable instructions which, when executed, perform the method of any of claims 1-12.
