Claims
- 1. A process for the permanent reshaping of the hair comprising, in a first step, applying to said hair for a period of time ranging from approximately 5 to 60 minutes so as to reduce the disulfide linkages of said hair, a composition comprising
- (i) an effective amount of a compound having the formula
- HS--A--Y--B (I)
- wherein
- Y represents --COO-- or --NH-- and
- (a) when Y represents --COO--,
- A represents --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- wherein n is 1 or 2 or ##STR4## wherein R represents linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, and B represents --H, --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 OH, --CH.sub.2 --CHOH--CH.sub.2 OH, ##STR5## (b) when Y represent --NH--, A represents ##STR6## wherein R' represents methyl or ethyl, and B represents --H or, when A represents --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --, B also represents --CO--R" wherein R" represents linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and
- (ii) a pulverulent malodorous compound removing absorbing agent which is insoluble in the composition and, when suspended in an aqueous solution containing 92 g/l of thioglycolic acid, the aqueous solution also contains at least 30 percent by weight of initial thioglycolic acid after contact for 15 minutes and,
- in a second step, reforming said disulfide linkages by applying thereto an oxidizing composition or by permitting atmosphere oxygen to act on said hair.
- 2. A process for waving the hair comprising applying to wet hair, wound on rollers having a diameter of 4 to 20 mm, a hair reducing composition comprising
- (i) an effective amount of a compound having the formula
- HS--A--Y--B
- wherein
- Y represents --COO-- or --NH-- and
- (a) when Y represents --COO--,
- A represents --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- wherein n is 1 or 2 or ##STR7## wherein R represents linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, and B represents --H, --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 OH, --CH.sub.2 --CHOH--CH.sub.2 OH, ##STR8## (b) when Y represents --NH--, A represents ##STR9## wherein R' represents methyl or ethyl, and B represents --H or, when A represents --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --, B also represents --CO--R" wherein R" represents linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and
- (ii) a pulverulent malodorous compound removing absorbing agent which is insoluble in the composition and, when suspended in an aqueous solution containing 92 g/l of thioglycolic acid, the aqueous solution also contains at least 30 percent by weight of initial thioglycolic acid after contact for 15 minutes
- and permitting said hair reducing composition to act on said hair for a period of time ranging from 5 to 60 minutes, rinsing said hair, applying a fixing agent to the wound hair so as to reform said disulfide linkages of said hair for a period of time ranging from 2 to 10 minutes, removing said rollers and rinsing said hair.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein said fixing agent comprises an oxidizing agent selected from the group consisting of hydrogen peroxide, an alkali metal bromate, a persalt, a polythionate and a mixture of an alkali metal bromate and a persalt, said fixing agent having a pH ranging from 2 to 10.
- 4. A process for straightening or decurling hair comprising applying to said hair a composition comprising
- (i) an effective amount of a compound having the formula
- HS--A--Y--B
- wherein
- Y represents --COO-- or --NH-- and
- (a) when Y represents --COO--,
- A represents --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- wherein n is 1 or 2 or ##STR10## wherein R represents linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, and B represents --H, --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 OH, --CH.sub.2 --CHOH--CH.sub.2 OH, ##STR11## (b) when Y represents --NH--, A represents ##STR12## wherein R' represents methyl or ethyl, and B represents --H or, when A represents --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --, B also represents --CO--R" wherein R" represents linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and
- (ii) a pulverulent malodorous compound removing absorbing agent which is insoluble in the composition and, when suspended in an aqueous solution containing 92 g/l of thioglycolic acid, the aqueous solution also contains at least 30 percent by weight of initial thioglycolic acid after contact for 15 minutes,
- mechanically reshaping said hair by smoothing said hair with a large-toothed comb so as to fix said hair in a novel shape, permitting said reshaped hair to be exposed to said composition for a period of time ranging from 5 to 60 minutes, further smoothing said hair, rinsing said hair, applying for a period of time ranging from 2 to 10 minutes a fixing agent comprising an oxidizing agent selected from the group consisting of hydrogen peroxide, an alkali metal bromate, a persalt, a polythionate and a mixture of an alkali metal bromate and a persalt and then rinsing said hair.
- 5. The method of any one of claims 1, 2 and 4, wherein the compound of formula (I) is selected from the group consisting of thioglycolic acid, thiolactic acid, 3-mercaptopropionic acid, glyceryl monothioglycolate, glyceryl 2-mercaptopropionate, an azeotropic mixture of 2-hydroxypropyl thioglycolate and 2-hydroxy-1-methylethyl thioglycolate, cysteamine, and N-acyl cysteamine wherein said acyl moiety contains 2 to 5 carbon atoms, cysteine, methyl cysteinate and ethyl cysteinate.
- 6. The method of any one of claims 1, 2 and 4, wherein the pulverulent absorbing agent is selected from the group consisting of an activated charcoal, an animal charcoal, talc, calcium carbonate, diatomaceous earth, clay, wood sawdust and an absorbent organic polymer.
- 7. The method of any one of claims 1, 2 and 4, wherein the pulverulent absorbing agent has a particle size ranging from 0.1 to 100 .mu.m.
