Claims
- 1. The process for oxidizing ammonia to form nitric oxide which comprises passing a feed gas containing ammonia and oxygen at an oxygen to ammonia volume ratio larger than 0.5 in contact with a stainless steel catalyst comprising stainless steel-316 containing 23% chromium, 18% nickel, 2% molybdenum, 0.5% carbon, the balance iron at a temperature between about 500.degree. C. and 1000.degree. C. and recovering nitric oxide produced.
