Claims
- 1. A method of forming a surface structure, the method comprising:
- shaping a skin on a single-sided mold at a first station;
- moving the single-sided mold and the skin to a second station applying a build-up to the skin at the second station moving the single-sided mold, skin, and build-up to a third station; and
- conforming a backing to the build-up at the third station.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein each moving step comprises a rotation of a mold supporting structure from one station to another station.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of shaping a skin includes applying a gas pressure ramp to a skin preform disposed opposite the single-sided die.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein the skin preform is a metal sheet.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the skin forming step further includes, after the step of applying a gas pressure ramp, explosively setting the skin preform to the single-sided die with a burst of gas.
