Claims
- 1. A method of guiding magnetic tape media along a tape path between a tape drive employing a single reel and a tape cartridge employing a single reel, the method comprising:
winding the magnetic tape media between a supply reel and a takeup reel; guiding the magnetic tape media as it is wound between the supply reel and the takeup reel; and adjusting the tape path of travel during winding of the magnetic tape media between the supply reel and takeup reel to maintain alignment of a tape track with the tape head.
- 2. The method of claim 1, the method further comprising:
controlling tension in the magnetic tape media during winding between the supply reel and takeup reel.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the adjusting step comprises:
moving the tape media up or down at least one guide roller to accommodate variations in the tape media and maintain alignment of the tape track with the tape head.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the moving step comprises:
applying an upward force on the magnetic tape media to move the magnetic tape media up the at least one guide roller, the upward force being counteracted by the at least one guide roller to move the tape media down the at least one guide roller.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the upward force maintains constant contact between an edge of the tape media and a top of the at least one guide roller.
