Claims
- 1. An open architecture method and gateway system for implementing an Internet Protocol (IP) charging and rating middleware platform and gateway system.
- 2. The system of claim 1, which permits the inspection of IP traffic at definable points within the requisite packet information.
- 3. The system of claim 2, comprising a computer program product (the IP Classification Engine) including instructions for implementing said IP traffic inspection, charging and rating on a computer readable memory medium.
- 4. The system of claim 3, which involve the loading of rating rules (the IP Classification Registry).
- 5. The system of claim 4, which involve a series of system level triggers which are armed to detect the occurrence of certain events.
- 6. The system of claim 4, where triggers may be armed on a real-time basis providing application control for, inter alia, protocol state, destination URL or address; or on a protocol-specific level including, inter alia, HTTP, POP3, SMTP, MMS, FTP and WAP.
- 7. The system of claim 5, where said triggers may involve and be armed based on various parametric attributes and variables as well as ranges as the case may associated with OSI layers 2-7 including protocol-specific attributes and variables associated with a number of IP based protocols including, inter alia, HTTP, POP3, SMTP, MMS, FTP and WAP.
- 8. The system of claims 3 and 4, which involves the creation of a decision tree based upon the rating rules for analyzing and determining the requisite packet type(s) in question.
- 9. The system of claim 8, whereby said packet is analyzed in according with the rules and logic specific thereto.
