Description

[0001] This invention relates to a method for exchanging, in real time or quasi real time, information, in particular written or audio messages, between several members of a population of people using mobile telephones, capable of being connected to a server via a communication network.

[0002] There are significant limits on the exchange of written or audio messages between mobile telephone users and, as a consequence, on the formation of discussion forums and the management of communities of users.

[0003] Current solutions do not allow systems already implemented on other communication networks, in particular on the Internet, to be transposed to mobile telephone systems. There are the following drawbacks: consulting messages in an asynchronous manner is not possible, sending a messages is always determinist (the recipients of a message must always be determined before sending a message) and users cannot be grouped according to their profile or interests.

[0004] The method according to the invention permits an exchange, in real time or quasi real time, of information, in particular written or audio messages, between several members of a population of people using mobile telephones, capable of being connected to a server via a communication network.

[0005] This method comprises several steps.

[0006] It comprises the step of transmitting an identification signal to the aforementioned server, from each mobile telephone used by a person wishing to exchange information in real time. The aforementioned signal contains information regarding the status of the mobile telephone in question. Status, in the sense of this invention, means “connected” or “connected and busy” or “connected and free” or “connected and hidden” or “connected and making a request” or “disconnected for a limited period” statuses. The aforementioned status is determined by the server and/or parameterised by the user of each mobile telephone. Where the aforementioned status is parameterised by the server, it is not necessary to transmit an identification signal containing the aforementioned status to the aforementioned server.

[0007] The method also comprises the following steps:

[0008] the step of periodically drawing up and memorising in the aforementioned server a list of people wishing to exchange information and who have transmitted the aforementioned identification signal, using their mobile telephone.

[0009] the step of viewing on the screen of a first mobile telephone and/or transmitting from a first mobile telephone using a speaker the aforementioned list, or a restricted list of selected people from those on the aforementioned list,

[0010] This restricted list can in particular be created by the user using the control functions on his mobile telephone. This restricted list can also be created in a quite different manner and memorised in the server, as explained below.

[0011] In an initial embodiment, the method comprises the step of transmitting to the aforementioned server, from the first mobile telephone, a download request signal. The download request signal from the aforementioned first mobile telephone relates to the status of the mobile telephones used by the people appearing on the aforementioned list or on the restricted list.

[0012] Alternatively, in a second embodiment, the method comprises the step of transmitting, from the server to the first mobile telephone, the status of the mobile telephones used by the people appearing on the aforementioned list or on the restricted list.

[0013] Thus, whatever the embodiment, the user of the aforementioned first mobile telephone knows at any time which people he can exchange information with.

[0014] In one embodiment, the method also comprises the step of transmitting to the aforementioned server, from the aforementioned first mobile telephone, a voice or text interconnection request signal, with all or some of the mobile telephones used by the people appearing on the aforementioned list or the restricted list, taking into account the status of their mobile telephone.

[0015] In another embodiment, an alternative to the previous embodiment, the method comprises the step of transmitting to the aforementioned first mobile telephone, from the server, a voice or text interconnection request, with one or more mobile telephones used by the people appearing on the aforementioned list or the restricted list, taking into account of the status of their mobile telephone, in particular the connected and making a request status.

[0016] Thus, whatever the embodiment, those people who are interconnected can exchange information in real time or quasi real time.

[0017] There are several ways of establishing the aforementioned restricted list of selected people.

[0018] Preferably, in one embodiment, the server transmits to the aforementioned first mobile telephone, either directly or on the request of the aforementioned first mobile telephone, the aforementioned list in such a form that the user can familiarise himself with it in an audio and/or visual manner and can select from the aforementioned list a restricted list.

[0019] Preferably, in another embodiment, the user establishes all or part of the aforementioned restricted list himself, in particular in favour of contacts with other members.

[0020] Favourably, according to the invention, the user transmits to the server the aforementioned restricted list or the changes made to the aforementioned restricted list, using the aforementioned first mobile telephone.
