Claims
- 1. A method for stabilizing argillaceous rocks containing reactive clays in the presence of water, wherein said argillaceous rocks are placed in contact with an aqueous solution containing a polymer with hydrophilic groups (Hy) and hydrophobic groups (Hb) so that the polymer is adsorbed by said argillaceous rocks, said groups being able to inhibit swelling of said argillaceous rocks characterized in that:
- the hydrophobic groups contain C.sub.4 -C.sub.30 alkyl groups,
- the molecular proportion of said hydrophobic groups is between 5 and 60%,
- said polymer has the following structure:
- a structure b1) of the --(Hb)--(Hy)-- type with a statistical distribution, said structure b1) being a polyacrylamide derivative resulting from copolymerization of an acrylamide with a hydrophobic comonomer, and wherein the hydrophilic group is an acrylamide or derivative thereof having at least one of the following forms:
- N-alkylacrylamide, alkyl acrylate, N-substituted acrylamide, or substituted acrylate, whose substituted part is a nonionic surfactant, said hydrophobic unit having the following general formula: ##STR13## wherein R.sub.5 is H or CH.sub.3 and Z.sub.2 is COOR.sub.7, COOR'.sub.1, CONR.sub.1 R'.sub.1 or CONR.sub.1 R.sub.7, R.sub.7 being a nonionic surfactant composed of an alkyl polyoxyethylene chain R.sub.1 being H, or a C.sub.4 -C.sub.30 alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl radical and R'.sub.1 being a C.sub.4 -C.sub.30 alkyl, aryl, or alkylaryl radical.
- 2. A method for stabilizing argillaceous rocks containing reactive clays in the presence of water, wherein said argillaceous rocks are placed in contact with an aqueous solution containing a polymer with hydrophilic groups (Hy) and hydrophobic groups (Hb) so that the polymer is adsorbed by said argillaceous rocks, said groups being able to inhibit swelling of said argillaceous rocks characterized in that:
- the hydrophobic groups contain C.sub.4 -C.sub.30 alkyl groups,
- the molecular proportion of said hydrophobic groups is between 5 and 60%,
- said polymer has the following structure:
- a structure b1) of the --(Hb)--(Hy)-- type, said structure b1) being a polyacrylamide derivative resulting from copolymerization of an acrylamide with a hydrophobic comonomer, and wherein the hydrophilic group is an acrylamide, with cationic units being introduced into Structure b1), said units having the following general formula: ##STR14## wherein R.sub.6 is H or CH.sub.3, Z.sub.3 is (CH.sub.2).sub.n, COO(CH.sub.2).sub.n or CONH(CH.sub.2).sub.n with n being a number from 0 to 20, and Y is R.sub.1 N.sup.+ R'.sub.1 R.sub.2 wherein only one of the three radicals R.sub.1, R'.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl radical and the remaining radicals are each a C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl radical.
- 3. A method for stabilizing argillaceous rocks containing reactive clays in the presence of water, wherein said argillaceous rocks are placed in contact with an aqueous solution containing a polymer with hydrophilic groups (Hy) and hydrophobic groups (Hb) so that the polymer is adsorbed by said argillaceous rocks, said groups being able to inhibit swelling of said argillaceous rocks characterized in that:
- the hydrophobic groups contain C.sub.4 -C.sub.30 alkyl groups,
- the molecular proportion of said hydrophobic groups is between 5 and 60%,
- said polymer has the following structure:
- a structure b1) of the --(Hb)--(Hy)-- type, said structure b1) being a polyacrylamide derivative resulting from copolymerization of an acrylamide with a hydrophobic comonomer, and wherein the hydrophilic group is an acrylamide or derivative in the form of acrylic acid, acrylate or sulfonate according to the following formula: ##STR15## wherein R.sub.5 is H or CH.sub.3 and Z.sub.1 is COOH or CONH.sub.2 or CONHR".sub.1, with R".sub.1 being a C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 substituted alkyl-, aryl-, or alkylarylsulfonate radical.
- 4. Method according to claim 3 characterized by the aqueous solution having between 1 and 10 g/liter of hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymer.
- 5. Utilization of the method according to claim 4 with fluids contacting reactive argillaceous formations, particularly fluids for drilling, fracturing, well treatment, or assisted recovery.
- 6. Drilling fluid characterized by comprising the solution defined in claim 3.
- 7. A method according to claim 3, wherein the polymer has the structure b1, wherein the hydrophilic group is acrylamide.
- 8. A method according to claim 3, wherein R.sub.5 is H and Z.sub.1 is COOH.
- 9. A method according to claim 3, wherein R.sub.5 is CH.sub.3 and Z.sub.1 is CONH.sub.2.
- 10. A method according to claim 3, wherein R.sub.5 is CH.sub.3 and Z.sub.1 is CONHR".sub.1 wherein R".sub.1 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 substituted alkyl-, aryl- or alkylaryl-sulfonate radical.
