Claims
- 1. A method of loading a container with refuse comprising the steps of:
- inserting refuse into said container;
- weighing said container as loading progresses;
- sensing pressure of refuse in said container as loading progresses; and
- discontinuing said inserting step when said container has reached either a predetermined weight or a predetermined pressure.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein:
- the weighing step includes the step of producing an electric signal proportionate to the weight of the container as loading progresses; and
- the discontinuing step includes the steps of,
- generating a reference electric signal,
- comparing the electric signal that is proportionate to the weight of the container with the reference electric signal, and
- discontinuing the inserting step when the electric signal that is proportionate to the weight of the container equals and/or exceeds the reference electric signal.
- 3. A method according to claim 2 wherein:
- the step of producing an electric signal proportionate to the weight of the container includes the steps of,
- supporting the container on a plurality of load cells, where each load cell supplies an electric signal proportionate to the weight supported by the load cell, and
- combining the signals from the load cells into a resultant signal; and
- the step of generating a reference signal includes the step of providing an adjustable potentiometer to manufacture the reference signal.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein:
- the refuse inserting step includes the step of moving an hydraulic cylinder from a retracted position to an extended position to push refuse into the container;
- the pressure sensing step includes the steps of,
- generating a reference time length, and
- sensing when the hydraulic cylinder reaches the extended position; and
- the discontinuing step includes the step of discontinuing the inserting step when the reference time length ends before the hydraulic cylinder reaches the extended position.
- 5. A method according to claim 4 wherein:
- the step of generating a reference time length includes the step of energizing a timer means when the hydraulic cylinder moves from the retracted position, where the timer means automatically deactivates after a predetermined length of time.
