Claims
- 1. A method of making a storage bag, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a web of thermoplastic film; adding closure elements to the web; cutting the web at a predetermined location on the web to create a first sheet and a second sheet; folding the first sheet to form a bottom edge of a first compartment; folding the second sheet to form a bottom edge of a second compartment; closing a closure element of the first compartment; closing a closure element of the second compartment; joining the first compartment to the second compartment, wherein the first compartment has a mouth at a top edge and the second compartment has a mouth at a top edge; and simultaneously joining the first and second side edges of the first and second compartments and severing the web into individual bags.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the providing step is performed by extruding the web.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first sheet is folded at a predetermined location on the first sheet and the second sheet is folded at a predetermined location on the second sheet.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the predetermined location on the first sheet is at the midpoint between the first and second mating strips of the first sheet and the predetermined location on the second sheet is at the midpoint between the first and second mating strips of the second sheet.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the closure element of the first compartment is substantially aligned with the closure element of the second compartment.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first and second compartments are joined proximate to the top edges of the first and second compartments.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the first and second compartments are joined at a point between the closure element of the first compartment and the closure element of the second compartment.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the first and second compartments are joined by at least one of the group consisting of an adhesive, a heat seal, an ultrasonic seal, an extruded lamination, and combinations thereof.
- 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the first compartment and the second compartment are joined by a continuous seal.
- 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the first compartment and the second compartment are joined by an intermittent seal.
- 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of integrating the at least one closure element with the web.
- 12. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of laminating the at least one closure element to the web.
- 13. The method of claim 1, wherein the first compartment has an inner sidewall and an outer sidewall and the second compartment has an inner sidewall and an outer sidewall.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the first and second compartments are joined at a point between the inner sidewall of the first compartment and the inner sidewall of the second compartment, the inner sidewalls joined together to create a center lip, the center lip extending above the top edges of the first and second compartments.
- 15. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of embossing the web.
- 16. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of providing microperforations in the web.
- 17. The method of claim 1, wherein the side edges of the first and second compartments are sealed by at least one of the group consisting of hot wire sealing, hot knife sealing, ultrasonic sealing, adhesive sealing and combinations thereof.
- 18. The method of claim 1, wherein the closing steps involve forcing mating straps into frictional engagement.
- 19. A storage bag, the storage bag comprising:
a first compartment having interior and exterior walls joined along first and second side edges and a bottom edge, the first compartment having a mouth proximate a top edge of the interior wall and a top edge of the exterior wall; and a second compartment formed separately from the first compartment having interior and exterior walls joined along first and second side edges and a bottom edge, the second compartment having a mouth proximate a top edge of the interior wall and a top edge of the exterior wall, wherein the interior wall top edge of the first compartment is joined with the interior wall top edge of the second compartment, the first compartment and second compartments being imperforate.
- 20. The storage bag of claim 19, wherein the top edges of the interior walls of the first and second compartments extend above the top edges of the exterior walls of the first and second compartments, at least a portion of the interior wall top edge of the first compartment is joined with at least a portion of the interior wall top edge of the second compartment to form a center lip, the center lip extending above the top edges of the exterior walls of the first and second compartments, and the center lip being imperforate.
- 21. The storage bag of claim 20, wherein the center lip is textured to facilitate grasping by a user.
- 22. The storage bag of claim 21, wherein the center lip is ribbed.
- 23. The storage bag of claim 19, wherein the first and second compartments each include a closure element.
- 24. The storage bag of claim 23, wherein each closure element includes first and second mating strips of a plastic zipper.
- 25. The storage bag of claim 24, wherein one of the first mating strips is connected to each of the exterior walls and wherein one of the second mating strips is connected to each of the interior walls.
- 26. The storage bag of claim 23, wherein the closure element of the first compartment is substantially aligned with the closure element of the second compartment.
- 27. The storage bag of claim 26, wherein the closure elements of the first and second compartments are spaced less than one half inch apart.
- 28. The storage bag of claim 19, wherein the first compartment is larger than the second compartment.
- 29. The storage bag of claim 23, wherein the closure elements of the first and second compartments have different opening forces.
- 30. The storage bag of claim 19, wherein the top edges of the first and second exterior walls are aligned.
- 31. The storage bag of claim 25, wherein the first mating strips are male and the second mating strips are female.
- 32. The storage bag of claim 20, wherein the center lip extends along the entire top edge of the first and second compartments.
- 33. A method of making a storage bag, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a first web and a second web; adding a first closure element on at least a portion of the first web and a second closure element on at least a portion of the second web; foldings the first web to form a bottom edge of a first compartment; folding the second web to form a bottom edge of a second compartment; closing a closure element of the first compartment; closing a closure element of the second compartment; joining the first compartment to the second compartment, wherein the first compartment has a mouth at a top edge and the second compartment has a mouth at a top edge, simultaneously joining the first and second side edges of the first and second compartments and securing the web into individual bags.
- 34. The method of claim 33, wherein the providing step is performed by extruding first and second webs.
- 35. The method of claim 33, wherein the first web is folded at a predetermined location on the first web and the second web is folded at a predetermined location on the second web.
- 36. The method of claim 35, wherein the predetermined location on the first web is at the midpoint between the first and second mating strips of the first web and the predetermined location on the second web is at the midpoint between the first and second mating strips of the second web.
- 37. The method of claim 33, wherein the closure element of the first compartment is substantially aligned with the closure element of the second compartment.
- 38. The method of claim 33, wherein the first and second compartments are joined proximate to the top edges of the first and second compartments.
- 39. The method of claim 38, wherein the first and second compartments are joined at a point between the closure element of the first compartment and the closure element of the second compartment.
- 40. The method of claim 33, wherein the first and second compartments are joined by at least one of the group consisting of an adhesive, a heat seal, an ultrasonic seal, an extruded lamination, and combinations thereof.
- 41. The method of claim 33, wherein the first compartment and the second compartment are joined by a continuous seal.
- 42. The method of claim 33, wherein the first compartment and the second compartment are joined by an intermittent seal.
- 43. The method of claim 33, further comprising the step of integrating at least one closure element of one of the first and second webs with one of the first and second webs.
- 44. The method of claim 33, further comprising the step of laminating at least one closure element of one of the first and second webs to one of the first and second webs.
- 45. The method of claim 33, wherein the first compartment has an inner sidewall and an outer sidewall and the second compartment has an inner sidewall and an outer sidewall.
- 46. The method of claim 45, wherein the first and second compartments are joined at a point between the inner sidewall of the first compartment and the inner sidewall of the second compartment, the inner sidewalls joined together to create a center lip, the center lip extending above the top edges of the first and second compartments.
- 47. The method of claim 33, further comprising the step of embossing at least one of the first and second webs.
- 48. The method of claim 33, further comprising the step of providing microperforations in at least one of the first and second webs.
- 49. The method of claim 33, wherein the side edges of the first and second compartments are sealed by at least one of the group consisting of hot wire sealing, hot knife sealing, ultrasonic sealing, adhesive sealing, and combinations thereof.
- 50. A method of forming a multi-compartment storage bag comprising:
folding a first web into a two-layer web; folding a second web into a two-layer web; closing a closure element of the first web to join the two layers of the first web; closing a closure element k of the second web to join the two layers of the second web; joining the first and second webs together proximate the closure elements; separating the joined first and second webs into discrete units having four unattached side edges on first and second sides; and joining the four unattached side edges together on the first and second sides.
