Claims
- 1. A method of manufacturing polyimide comprising the step of reacting a diamine with an ester acid of a dianhydride to form polyimide.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the dianhydride is selected from the group consisting of pyromellitic dianhydride, bisphenol A dianhydride, and combinations thereof.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the diamine is selected from the group consisting of aliphatic diamines, aromatic diamines, and combinations thereof.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the diamine is selected from the group consisting of dodecyldiamine, oxydianiline, diaminophenylindane, hexamethylene diamine, cyclohexyl diamine, and combinations thereof.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the ester acid is formed by reacting the dianhydride with an alcohol to form the ester acid.
- 6. The polyimide produced according to the method of claim 1 having a molecular weight of at least about 15,000.
- 7. The polyimide produced according to the method of claim 1 having a molecular weight of at least about 40,000.
- 8. The polyimide produced according to the method of claim 1 wherein the polyimide has at least two different kinds of diamine moieties.
- 9. A method for producing polyimide comprising the steps of:
converting a dianhydride to an ester acid; and reacting the ester acid with a diamine to form polyimide.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein the dianhydride is selected from the group consisting of pyromellitic dianhydride, bisphenol A dianhydride, and combinations thereof.
- 11. The method of claim 9 wherein the diamine is selected from the group consisting of aliphatic diamines, aromatic diamines, and combinations thereof.
- 12. The method of claim 9 wherein the diamine is selected from the group consisting of dodecyldiamine, oxydianiline, diaminophenylindane, hexamethylene diamine, cyclohexyl diamine, and combinations thereof.
- 13. The polyimide produced according to the method of claim 9 having a molecular weight of at least about 15,000.
- 14. The polyimide produced according to the method of claim 9 having a molecular weight of at least about 40,000.
- 15. The polyimide produced according to the method of claim 9 wherein the polyimide has at least two different kinds of diamine moieties.
- 16. A method for making a polyimide comprising the steps of:
converting a dianhydride to an ester acid; and reacting a predetermined amount of an aliphatic diamine with the ester acid.
- 17. The method of claim 16 wherein the step of reacting a predetermined amount of an aliphatic diamine with the ester acid further comprises reacting predetermined amount of a second diamine with the ester acid.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein the second diamine is aromatic.
