Claims
- 1. A process for producing a video disc comprising the steps of:
- forming a master matrix including a substrate having a flat first surface carrying a video information track, and said information track being in the form of a series or photoresist members, and said members are generally arranged in a concentric, spiral track, and each member having a constant dimension in a radial direction and a constant maximum dimension in a direction perpendicular to said surface, and the length of each member in the circumferential direction and the distance between adjacent member in the circumferential direction being representative of the video information; pouring a silicone rubber compound over the surface of the master matrix to a uniform depth; applying a uniform pressure over said poured compound, heating said compound until cured while applying said uniform pressure, separating said cured elastomer from said matrix thereby forming an elastomeric mold member and casting a replica video disc from said mold member, and said replica video disc having a first surface carrying a replicated copy of said information track carried by said first surface of said substrate.
- 2. The process as recited in claim 1 and further including the additional steps of:
- attaching a backing member to said compound after said compound is poured into the mold and prior to the application of a uniform pressure over said poured compound; and
- using said backing member during separation of the mold from said matrix for holding said mold.
- 3. A process for producing a video disc comprising the steps of:
- providing a master matrix of the type employing a glass disc substrate having a first surface;
- forming a video information track on said first surface, and said information track being in the form of a series of photoresist discontinuities, and the discontinuities are generally arranged in a concentric, spiral track, and each discontinuity having a constant dimension in a radial direction and a constant maximum dimension in the direction perpendicular to said surface, and the length of each discontinuity in the circumferential direction and the distance between adjacent discontinuities in the circumferential direction being representative of the video information;
- providing a silicone rubber compound as the material for making an elastomer mold;
- mixing, filtering and degassing said silicone rubber compound for preparing said compound for use by removing all bubbles therefrom;
- pouring said prepared compound over the surface of said master matrix to a uniform depth;
- apply a uniform pressure over said poured compound;
- heating said compound until cured while being subjected to said uniform pressure;
- separating said cured elastomer mold from said matrix; and
- casting a replica video disc in said elastomeric mold for forming an information bearing surface made from a material selected from a polyurethane resin mixture, an acrylic, an epoxy and a polymerizable monomer, and for forming a surface including discontinuities made of the same material as said surface, and the discontinuities are generally arranged in a concentric, spiral track, and each discontinuity having a constant dimension in a radial direction and a constant maximum dimension in the direction perpendicular to said surface, and the length of each discontinuity in the circumferential direction and the distance between adjacent discontinuities in the circumferential direction be representative of the video information.
