Claims
- 1. A method of measuring and reporting a product application rate for a mobile product applicator, the method comprising:
- collecting machine parameter data;
- determining application rate data based on the machine parameter data; and
- displaying the application rate data on a visual display device in near real time.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the machine parameter data includes applicator speed data.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the machine parameter data includes load cell data collected from a load cell operatively coupled to a product storage device located on the applicator machine.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the machine parameter data includes flow meter data collected from a flow meter coupled to a dispensing point located on the applicator machine.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the machine parameter data includes volumetric flow rate data collected from volumetric flow sensors coupled to a product storage device located on the applicator machine.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the machine parameter data includes volumetric flow rate data collected from volumetric flow sensors coupled to dispensing points located on the applicator machine.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the machine parameter data includes applicator machine spreading path data.
- 8. The method of claim 1 and further comprising collecting product data and determining application rate data based on the product data.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the product data is product density.
- 10. The method of claim 1 and further comprising controlling an application rate based on the visual display to achieve a desired product application rate.
- 11. A method of measuring and reporting a rate of product application for a mobile applicator, the method comprising:
- collecting speed data as the mobile applicator travels over a desired geographical surface area;
- collecting product flow rate data at a product metering device as the mobile applicator applies a product;
- determining application rate data based on the speed data and product flow rate data; and
- visually reporting the application rate data on-the-go via a visual display device.
- 12. The method of claim 11 and further comprising adjusting a rate of product application via the metering device to achieve a desired application rate.
- 13. The method of claim 11 and further comprising collecting spreading path data and determining application rate data based on the spreading path data.
- 14. The method of claim 11 wherein the product metering device comprises an adjustable gate and an apron and the product flow rate data is based on a known height of the gate and a known speed at which the apron is moving.
- 15. The method of claim 11 wherein the product metering device comprises an auger and the product flow rate data is based on a known amount of crop product the auger can move per time unit.
- 16. A method for measuring and reporting a product application rate for a mobile applicator having a speed sensor, a load cell coupled to a product storage device, a data input device, a data storage device, a data processor, and a visual display device, the method comprising:
- collecting speed data from the speed sensor;
- collecting load cell data from the load cell on the product storage device;
- collecting machine data and product data via the data input device;
- storing the speed data, load cell data, machine data, and product data in the data storage unit;
- accessing the stored speed data, load cell data, machine data, and product data;
- extracting selected data points from the speed data, load cell data, machine data, and product data;
- determining product application rate data based on the speed data, load cell data, machine data, and product data; and
- visually reporting the application rate data on-the-go using the visual display device.
- 17. The method of claim 16 wherein the machine data includes spreading path width.
- 18. The method of claim 16 wherein the product data includes product density.
- 19. The method of claim 16 wherein the load cell data includes the weight of crop product stored in the product storage device.
- 20. A method of measuring and reporting a rate of product application for a mobile applicator having at least one product metering device and further having a monitoring system including a data processor, a data input device in communication with the data processor, an algorithmic software directing the data processor and a data storage unit, the method comprising:
- providing at least one mobile applicator having at least one speed sensor device and further having at least one product storage device including at least one load cell operatively connected thereto;
- causing the at least one mobile applicator to travel over a desired geographical surface area;
- storing discrete speed sensor data, load cell data, time interval data, product density data, and spreading path data associated with the at least one mobile applicator in the data storage unit;
- determining application rate data for selected products via algorithmically defined interrelationships between the discrete sensor data, load cell data, time interval data, product density data and spreading path data;
- visually reporting the application rate data to a mobile applicator operator on-the-go in near real-time; and
- adjusting a rate of product application for at least one stored product via the product metering device such that a desired product spreading rate is achieved.
- 21. A method of measuring and reporting a rate of product application for a mobile applicator having at least one product metering device and further having a monitoring system including a data processor, a data input device in communication with the data processor, an algorithmic software directing the data processor, a data storage unit, and a display device, the method comprising:
- causing the mobile applicator to travel over a desired geographical surface area;
- measuring a ground speed of the mobile applicator;
- measuring a volumetric flow rate for a selected product;
- storing discrete speed data associated with the measured ground speed, volumetric flow data associated with the measured product volumetric flow rate, predetermined time interval data, and spreading path data associated with the mobile applicator in the data storage unit;
- determining application rate data for selected products via algorithmically defined interrelationships between the discrete speed data, the volumetric flow data, the time interval data, and the spreading path data;
- visually reporting the application rate data to a mobile applicator operator on-the-go in near real-time via the display device; and
- adjusting a rate of product application for at least one stored product via the product metering device such that a desired product spreading rate is achieved.
- 22. A method of measuring and reporting a rate of product application for a mobile product applicator having at least one product storage device including a metering device operatively coupled thereto, a means operatively coupled to the mobile product applicator for measuring volumetric flow of selected products, and further having a monitoring system including a data processor, a data input device in communication with the data processor, an algorithmic software directing the data processor, and a data storage unit, the method comprising:
- causing the mobile product applicator to travel over a desired geographical surface area;
- measuring a ground speed of the mobile product applicator;
- measuring volumetric flow rates for selected products;
- storing discrete applicator speed data associated with the measured applicator ground speed, predetermined time interval data, volumetric flow data associated with the measured volumetric flow rates for selected products, and spreading path data associated with the mobile product applicator in the data storage unit;
- determining application rate data for selected products via algorithmically defined interrelationships between the discrete speed data; the volumetric flow data, the time interval data, and the spreading path data;
- visually reporting the application rate data to a mobile product applicator operator on-the-go in near real-time; and
- adjusting a rate of product application for selected products via the product metering device such that a desired product spreading rate is achieved.
