Claims
- 1. A method comprising generating a laser beam, causing the laser beam to scan a medium in sequential scan lines to effect a processing thereof, the scanning being effected at a rate which is subject to deviation from scan line to next sequential scan line, modulating the laser beam during each scan line at a rate to control the processing of said medium, and responding to the deviation in each scan line to control the rate of modulating the laser beam for the next sequential scan line to compensate for the deviation in scanning of said medium, the laser beam being caused to scan said medium by the use of a synchronous motor, the method further comprising mechanically loading the motor with an auxiliary inertia weight to reduce the frequency of said deviations.
- 2. A. method as claimed in claim 1 comprising initiating a count for each scan line to generate error counts proportional to said deviations and controlling the rate of modulating the laser for each scan line according to the error count for the next preceding scan line.
- 3. A method as claimed in claim I comprising generating a start-of-line signal for the beginning of each scan line and responding to each start-of-line signal for commencing and terminating the count for each line.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 3 wherein the count for each scan line is a count down from a fixed count, the count down lasting for the period between successive start-of-line signals.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 4 comprising converting the count for each scan line into a proportional voltage and responding to said voltage to control the rate modulating the laser beam for the next sequential scan line.
- 6. A method as claimed in claim 5 comprising responding to the proportional voltage by generating a variable clock signal which is employed to control the rate of modulating the laser beam.
