Claims
- 1. Process for the polymerization of unsaturated monomers using a catalyst which can be represented with the general formula,
- Me(Ar)(AlX.sub.3 R).sub.3 (I),
- and an alkylating agent, comprising the steps of
- (a) forming a solution of catalyst (I) and said alkylating agent in a hydrocarbon solvent suitable for polymerization,
- (b) maintaining said solution at a temperature between 0.degree. and 70.degree. C. under stirring,
- (c) adding a polymerizable unsaturated monomer, and
- (d) polymerizing said unsaturated monomer at the temperature of step (b), wherein:
- Me represents a metal of group IIIA, having atomic number 21, 39, or an atomic number of between 57 and 71,
- Ar represents benzene or a benzene substituted with from 1 to 3 alkyl groups containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms,
- X is a halogen atom, whereas,
- R is a linear, cyclic or branched alkyl radical containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms.
- 2. Process according to claim 1, wherein the alkylating agent is selected from the group consisting of Li-Butyl, Mg(Bu).sub.2 and Al H(Bu.sup.i).sub.2.
- 3. Process according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the ratio between the catalysts with general formula (I) and the alkylating compounds is between 6 and 50.
- 4. Process for the polymerization of unsaturated monomers using a catalyst which can be represented with the general formula,
- Me(Ar)(AlX.sub.3 R).sub.3 (I),
- and an alkylating agent, comprising the steps of
- (a) forming a solution of catalyst (I) and said alkylating agent in a reaction medium comprising at least one polymerizable unsaturated monomer and a hydrocarbon solvent suitable for polymerization, and
- (b) maintaining said solution at a temperature between 0.degree. and 70.degree. C. under stirring, wherein:
- Me represents a metal of group IIIA, having atomic number 21, 39, or an atomic number of between 57 and 71,
- Ar represents benzene or a benzene substituted with from 1 to 3 alkyl groups containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms,
- X is a halogen atom, whereas,
- R is a linear, cyclic or branched alkyl radical containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms.
- 5. Process according to claim 1, characterized in that the polymerizable unsaturated monomer is at least one member selected from the group consisting of ethylene, butadiene, isoprene and 1,3-pentadiene.
