- 41. A method for producing N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, a salt or an ester thereof, the method comprising contacting formaldehyde, phosphorous acid and an amine, or a salt thereof, having the formula (III):
- 42. The method of claim 41 wherein N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, or a salt thereof is isolated from the reaction product mixture.
- 43. A method for producing N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, a salt or an ester thereof, the method comprising contacting formaldehyde, phosphorous acid and an amine, or a salt thereof, having the formula (III):
- 44. The method of claim 43 wherein N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, or a salt thereof is isolated from the reaction product mixture.
- 45. A method for producing N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, a salt or ester thereof, the method comprising contacting formaldehyde, phosphorous acid and an amine, or a salt thereof, having the formula (III):
- 46. The method of claim 45 wherein N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, or a salt thereof is isolated from the reaction product mixture.
- 47. A method for producing N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, a salt or ester thereof, the method comprising contacting formaldehyde, phosphorous acid and an amine, or a salt thereof, having the formula (III):
- 48. The method of claim 47 wherein N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, or a salt thereof is isolated from the reaction product mixture.
- 49. A method for producing N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, a salt or an ester thereof, the method comprising contacting formaldehyde, phosphorous acid and an amine, or a salt thereof, having the formula (III):
- 50. The method of claim 49 wherein the aminomethylphosphonic acid derivative, or a salt thereof, is contacted with water and the oxidizing gas in the presence of a catalyst at a pH of no less than about 1.5 and
wherein the molar ratio of formylphosphonic acid, or salt thereof to formic acid is at least about 2:1 in the reaction product mixture.
- 51. The method of claim 49 wherein N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, or a salt thereof is isolated from the reaction product mixture.
- 52. A method for producing N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, a salt or ester thereof, the method comprising contacting formaldehyde, phosphorous acid and an amine, or a salt thereof, having the formula (III):
- 53. The method of claim 52 wherein the aminomethylphosphonic acid derivative, or a salt thereof, is contacted with water and the oxidizing gas in the presence of a catalyst at a pH of no less than about 1.5 and
wherein the molar ratio of formylphosphonic acid, or salt thereof to formic acid is at least about 2:1 in the reaction product mixture.
- 54. The method of claim 52 wherein N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, or a salt thereof is isolated from the reaction product mixture.
- 55. A method for producing N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, a salt or ester thereof, the method comprising contacting formaldehyde, phosphorous acid and an amine, or a salt thereof, having the formula (III):
- 56. The method of claim 55 wherein N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, or a salt thereof is isolated from the reaction product mixture.
- 57. A method for producing N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, a salt or ester thereof, the method comprising contacting formaldehyde, phosphorous acid and an amine, or a salt thereof, having the formula (III):
- 58. The method of claim 57 wherein N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, or a salt thereof is isolated from the reaction product mixture.
