Claims
- 1. In a metallic coupling which includes a first coupling member having a dimensioned bore defined by an interior bore surface, and a second coupling member having a mating, dimensioned stem, which is defined by an exterior stem surface, and which is received by the bore, a method of preventing galling between the interior bore surface and the exterior stem surface, the method comprising the following steps:
- hardening the bore to a range from 37 to 43 R.sub.c ; and
- electrodepositing on the interior bore surface a layer of hard chromium having a thickness ranging from about 0.0001 inch to about 0.0002 inch.
- 2. A method, as claimed in claim 1, further including the step of, prior to electrodepositing the layer of hard chromium on the interior bore surface, sizing the stem to have a diametrical clearance of from about 0.0004 to 0.0012 inch with respect to the interior bore surface.
