Claims
- 1. A method for preventing periodontitis in the oral cavity, said method comprising the step of decreasing the anaerobic bacterial population and increasing the aerobic bacterial population within the oral cavity by applying stabilized chlorine dioxide in aqueous solution having a concentration of at least 0.005%.
- 2. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein said step of decreasing includes the step of creating a higher oxygen tension in the saliva present in the oral cavity.
- 3. The method as set forth in claim 2 including the step of converting living tissues adjacent oxygenated saliva from anaerobic into aerobic glycolysis.
- 4. The method as set forth in claim 3 including the step of increasing the number of adenosinetrephosphate molecules.
- 5. The method as set forth in claim 1 including the step of retarding the immune reaction within the oral cavity and concomitant lymphocyte cloning.
- 6. The method as set forth in claim 5 including the step hindering the compliment cascade normally resulting from lymphocyte cloning to reduce inflammation and bone loss within the oral cavity by.
- 7. The method as set forth in claim 1 including the step hindering the compliment cascade normally resulting from lymphocyte cloning to reduce inflammation and bone loss within the oral cavity by.
- 8. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the concentration of stabilized chlorine dioxide is in the range of 0.005% to 0.2%.
