Claims
- 1. A method for processing biological fluid comprising:
- introducing gas through at least one downstream gas inlet through a pooling assembly into a first one of a plurality of upstream source containers of biological fluid while preventing the flow of gas from the gas inlet into a receiving container for receiving the biological fluid, wherein the gas inlet is interposed between the plurality of upstream source containers and the receiving container, and wherein the pooling assembly is interposed between the gas inlet and the plurality of upstream source containers;
- introducing gas through the downstream gas inlet and through the pooling assembly into a second one of the plurality of upstream source containers of biological fluid while preventing the flow of gas from the gas inlet into the receiving container;
- passing the biological fluid from the first upstream source container through the pooling assembly, and through a leukocyte depletion device to leukocyte deplete the fluid from the first container, wherein said leukocyte depletion device is interposed between the gas inlet and the receiving container;
- passing the biological fluid from the second upstream source container through the pooling assembly, and through the leukocyte depletion device to leukocyte deplete the fluid from the second container; and,
- passing the leukocyte depleted biological fluid into the receiving container.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein passing the leukocyte depleted fluid into the receiving container includes exhausting gas ahead of the leukocyte depleted biological fluid and minimizing the flow of gas into the receiving container before passing the leukocyte depleted fluid into the receiving container.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein passing the leukocyte depleted fluid into the receiving container includes exhausting gas ahead of the leukocyte depleted biological fluid before opening a biological fluid flow path between the leukocyte depletion device and the receiving container and then passing the leukocyte depleted fluid into the receiving container.
- 4. The method of claim 2 wherein exhausting gas includes passing gas through a gas outlet.
- 5. The method of claim 2 further comprising introducing gas through the gas inlet and passing additional leukocyte depleted biological fluid into the receiving container.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein biological fluid is processed in a closed sterile system.
- 7. A method for processing biological fluid comprising:
- introducing gas through at least one downstream gas inlet into a plurality of upstream source containers of biological fluid while preventing the flow of gas from the gas inlet into a receiving container for receiving the biological fluid, wherein the gas inlet is interposed between the plurality of upstream source containers and the receiving container;
- passing the biological fluid from the plurality of upstream source containers through a pooling assembly to the receiving container;
- exhausting gas ahead of the biological fluid; and
- introducing gas through the gas inlet behind the biological fluid to maximize recovery of the biological fluid in the receiving container.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein biological fluid is processed in a closed sterile system.
- 9. The method of claim 7 wherein introducing the gas into the plurality of source containers includes passing gas through the downstream gas inlet through the pooling assembly, wherein said assembly is interposed between the inlet and the source containers.
- 10. The method of claim 9 including introducing gas into the plurality of source containers sequentially.
- 11. A method for processing biological fluid comprising:
- introducing gas through a downstream gas inlet and through a pooling assembly into a plurality of upstream source containers of biological fluid while preventing the flow of gas from the gas inlet into a receiving container, wherein the gas inlet is interposed between the plurality of upstream source containers and the receiving container, and wherein the pooling assembly is interposed between the gas inlet and the plurality of upstream source containers; and
- passing biological fluid from the plurality of upstream source containers through the pooling assembly and a leucocyte depletion assembly to the receiving container.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein a drip chamber is interposed between the gas inlet and the leukocyte depletion device, and the method includes passing biological fluid from the pooling assembly through the drip chamber and the leucocyte depletion device to the receiving container.
- 13. The method of claim 12 further comprising exhausting gas through a gas outlet.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein the gas outlet is interposed between the leucocyte depletion device and the receiving container.
- 15. The method of claim 13 wherein the receiving container includes the gas outlet.
- 16. The method of claim 11 wherein biological fluid is processed in a closed sterile system.
- 17. A method for processing biological fluid comprising:
- introducing gas through a downstream gas inlet into a plurality of upstream source containers of biological fluid while preventing the flow of gas from the gas inlet into a receiving container, wherein the gas inlet is interposed between the plurality of upstream source containers and the receiving container, and wherein the pooling assembly is interposed between the gas inlet and the plurality of upstream source containers;
- passing the biological fluid from the plurality of upstream source containers through a pooling assembly and a leucocyte depletion assembly to the receiving container;
- exhausting gas ahead of the biological fluid; and
- introducing gas behind the biological fluid to maximize recovery of the biological fluid in the receiving container.
