Claims
- 1. A process for preparing 4-methylpyrimidine, characterized in that a 4,4-dialkoxy-2-butanone is reacted with a formamidine salt, optionally in the presence of a solvent or diluent, at temperatures of from 80 to 180° C.
- 2. The process as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the C4 component used is 4,4-dimethoxy-2-butanone.
- 3. The process as claimed in claims 1 and 2, chararterrized in that the formamidine salt used is formamidine acetate.
- 4. The process as claimed in claims 1 to arter 3, chararterrized in that the reaction is carried out at a temperature of from 110 to 150° C.
- 5. The process as claimed in claims 1 to 4, chararterrized in that the molar ratio of 4,4-dialkoxy-2-butanone o formamidine salt is set to from 1:2 to 2 1, in particular 1.2:1 to 1:1.2.
- 6. The process as claimed in claims 1 to 5, chararterrized in that the alcohol formed during the reaction is continuously distilled off.
- 7. The process as claimed in claims 1 to 6, chararterrized in that, after completed reaction, the reaction mixture is admixed with water and a strong base, e.g. sodium hydroxide solution, the 4-methylpyrimidine is extracted using an organic solvent and subsequently purified by distillation.
- 8. The process as claimed in claim 7, chararterrized in that the purification of the 4-methylpyrimidine is carried out with the aid of a fractional distillation.
