Claims
- 1. A method of manufacturing a carbon fiber-reinforced gypsum model which comprises the steps of:
- a. cutting bundles of carbon fibers having a sizing agent coated thereon into a length of from 5 to 200 mm;
- b. heating the bundles of cut carbon fibers to remove the sizing agent coated thereon;
- c. agitating the bundles of heat treated carbon fibers by agitator blades in water while simultaneously applying ultrasonic oscillation, thereby separating the bundles of carbon fibers into a multitude of single fibers;
- d. mixing gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder, from 0.01 to 2.4 wt% of said single fibers based on said gypsum powder, and water under agitation to obtain a gypsum slurry in which said single fibers are uniformly dispersed;
- e. forming the gypsum slurry and
- f. hardening and drying the formed slurry to produce said model.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the cut carbon fibers have a length of from 5 to 100 mm and the content of the carbon fibers based on the gypsum powder is from 0.01 to 1.0 wt %.
- 3. A method of manufacturing a carbon fiber-reinforced gypsum forming mold, which comprises the steps of:
- a. cutting bundles of carbon fibers having a sizing agent coated thereon into a length of from 5 to 100 mm;
- b. heating the bundles of cut carbon fibers to remove the sizing agent coated thereon;
- c. agitating the bundles of heat treated carbon fibers in water with agitator blades while simultaneously applying ultrasonic oscillation, thereby separating the bundles of carbon fibers into a multitude of single fibers;
- d. mixing gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder, from 0.01 to 1 wt % of said single fibers based on said gypsum hemihydrate powder and water under agitation to obtain a gypsum slurry in which said single fibers are uniformly dispersed;
- e. casting the gypsum slurry of step d into a preceding mold;
- f. partially hardening and drying the cast gypsum slurry of step e to form a damp mold;
- g. removing the resulting damp mold from the preceding mold; and
- h. further drying the damp mold of step g.
- 4. The method according to claim 3, wherein the cut carbon fibers have a length of from 15 to 30 mm and the content of the carbon fibers based on the gypsum hemihydrate powder is from 0.05 to 0.3 wt %.
- 5. A method of manufacturing a carbon fiber-reinforced gypsum mold for forming white ware which comprises the steps of:
- a. cutting bundles of carbon fibers having coated thereon a sizing agent into a length of from 5 to 100 mm;
- b. heating the bundles of cut carbon fibers to remove the sizing agent coated thereon;
- c. agitating the bundles of heat treated carbon fibers in water with agitator blades while simultaneously applying ultrasonic oscillation, thereby separating the bundles of carbon fibers into a multitude of single fibers;
- d. mixing gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder, from 0.01 to 1 wt % of said single fibers based on said gypsum hemihydrate powder and water under agitation to obtain a gypsum slurry in which said single fibers are uniformly dispersed;
- e. separately preparing a pure gypsum slurry;
- f. casting the pure gypsum slurry into a preceding mold to form a thin film thereon;
- g. then casting the single fiber-dispersed gypsum slurry onto said thin film of step f;
- h. partially hardening and drying the cast gypsum slurry of step g to form a damp mold;
- i. removing the resulting damp mold of step h from the preceding mold; and
- j. further drying the damp mold of step i.
- 6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the cut carbon fibers have a length of from 15 to 30 mm and the content of the carbon fibers based on the gypsum powder is from 0.05 to 0.3 wt %.
- 7. A method of manufacturing a carbon fiber-reinforced gypsum model which comprises the steps of:
- a. cutting bundles of carbon fibers treated with a water-soluble sizing agent into a length of from 5 to 200 mm;
- b. charging into water from 0.01 to 2.4 wt %, based on gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder, of the bundles of chopped carbon fibers to form a mixture;
- c. gently agitating the mixture of step b to cause the sizing agent to be dissolved in water whereby the bundles of carbon fibers are separated into a multitude of single fibers, forming a suspension in said water;
- d. charging gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder into the suspension and mixing the suspension by agitation, thereby obtaining a gypsum slurry in which the single fibers are uniformly dispersed;
- e. casting the gypsum slurry into a mold;
- f. partially hardening and drying the cast slurry of step e. to form a damp model;
- g. then removing the resulting damp model of step f from the mold; and
- h. further drying the damp model of step g.
- 8. The method according to claim 7, wherein the chopped carbon fibers have a length of from 5 to 100 mm and the content of the carbon fibers based on the gypsum hemihydrate powder is from 0.01 to 1.0 wt %.
- 9. A method of manufacturing a carbon fiber-reinforced gypsum forming mold, which comprises the steps of:
- a. cutting bundles of carbon fibers treated with a water-soluble sizing agent into a length of from 5 to 100 mm;
- b. charging into water from 0.01 to 1 wt %, based on gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder, of the bundles of chopped carbon fibers to form a mixture;
- c. gently agitating the mixture of step b to cause the sizing agent to be dissolved in water whereby the bundles of carbon fibers are separated into a multitude of single fibers;
- d. charging gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder into the suspension and mixing the suspension by agitation, thereby obtaining a gypsum slurry in which the single fibers are uniformly dispersed;
- e. casting the gypsum slurry into a preceding mold;
- f. partially hardening and drying the cast slurry of step e. to form a damp mold;
- g. then removing the resulting damp mold of step f from said preceding mold; and
- h. further drying the damp mold of step g.
- 10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the cut carbon fibers have a length of from 15 to 30 mm and the content of the carbon fibers based on the gypsum hemihydrate powder is from 0.05 to 0.3 wt %.
- 11. The method according to claim 10, wherein the water-soluble sizing agent is polyvinylpyrrolidone.
- 12. The method according to claim 10, wherein the water-soluble sizing agent is polyvinyl alcohol.
- 13. A method of manufacturing a carbon fiber-reinforced gypsum mold or its preceding molds for forming white wares which comprises the steps of:
- a. cutting bundles of carbon fibers treated with a water-soluble sizing agent into a length of from 5 to 100 mm;
- b. charging into water from 0.01 to 1 wt %, based on gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder, of the bundles of chopped carbon fibers to form a mixture;
- c. gently agitating the mixture of step b to cause the sizing agent to be dissolved in water whereby the bundles of carbon fibers are separated into a multitude of single fibers;
- d. charging gypsum hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O) powder into the suspension and mixing the suspension by agitation, thereby obtaining a gypsum slurry in which the single fibers are uniformly dispersed;
- e. separately preparing a pure gypsum slurry;
- f. casting the pure gypsum slurry into a preceding mold to form a thin film thereon;
- g. then casting the carbon fiber-dispersed gypsum slurry of step d onto the thin film of step f;
- h. partially hardening and drying the contents of the preceding mold of step g to form a damp mold;
- i. then removing the resulting damp mold of step h from the preceding mold; and
- j. further drying the damp mold of step i.
- 14. The method according to claim 13 wherein the chopped carbon fibers have a length of from 15 to 30 mm and the content of the carbon fibers based on the gypsum powder is from 0.05 to 0.3 wt %.
- 15. The method according to claim 13, wherein the water-soluble sizing agent is polyvinylpyrrolidone.
- 16. The method according to claim 13, wherein the water-soluble sizing agent is polyvinyl alcohol.
