Claims
- 1. A copper-clad, ceramic article comprising a sintered aluminum nitride substrate having an oxidized surface to form thereon an aluminum oxide surface layer of 1 to 10 .mu.m thickness, the aluminum oxide surface layer of said substrate having a maximum surface roughness in terms of maximum height, R max, of no more than 10 .mu.m and a copper layer directly joined to said aluminum oxide surface layer.
- 2. The ceramic substrate of claim 1 wherein the substrate is formed of not more than 5% of a sintering aid and the balance of aluminum nitride.
- 3. The ceramic substrate of claim 2 wherein the sintering aid is yttrium oxide.
