Claims
- 1. A method for prophylactic treatment of the colonization of a Staphylococcus aureus bacterial strain having the ability to bind to fibronectin in a mammal comprising administering to a mammal in need of such treatment, a prophylactic therapeutically active amount of a protein having fibronectin binding properties, to prevent the generation of infections caused by a Staphylococcus aureus bacterial strain having the ability to bind to fibronectin, said protein having a molecular weight selected from the group consisting of 87,000 and 165,000.
- 2. The method for prophylactic treatment according to claim 1, wherein said mammal is a ruminant and said colonization of Staphylococcus aureus causes mastitis, and wherein said fibronectin binding cell surface protein is used for topical treatment, said protein having a molecular weight of 87,000 or 165,000.
- 3. The method for prophylactic treatment according to claim 1, wherein the administration is by vaccination to induce immunization.
