Claims
- 1. A process for the prophylaxis of obesity in an animal, said process comprising administering to said animal an anti-obesity effective amount of a compound having the following formula: ##STR27## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, and R.sub.7, are each independently hydrogen or lower alkyl;
- R.sub.3 is hydrogen;
- X is halogen, hydroxy, hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy;
- Z is lower alkyl or hydrogen; and n is 1 or 2; with the proviso that at least one of X and Z is other than hydrogen.
- 2. The process according to claim 1 wherein alkyl contains 1-5 carbon atoms.
- 3. The process according to claim 2 wherein alkyl is methyl.
- 4. The process according to claim 1 wherein X is fluoro.
- 5. The process according to claim 1 wherein the compound has the formula: ##STR28## wherein X is halogen, hydroxy, hydrogen, or lower alkyl; and
- Z is lower alkyl or hydrogen; with the proviso that at least one of X and Z is other than hydrogen.
- 6. The process according to claim 5 wherein alkyl contains 1-3 carbon atoms.
- 7. The process according to claim 6 wherein alkyl is methyl.
- 8. The process according to claim 5 wherein X is fluoro.
- 9. The process according to claim 1 wherein the compound is: ##STR29##
- 10. The process according to claim 1 wherein the compound is: ##STR30##
- 11. A process for the prophylaxis of obesity in an animal which comprises administering to said animal an anti-obesity effective amount of a compound having the formula: ##STR31## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, and R.sub.7, are each independently hydrogen or lower alkyl;
- R.sub.3 is hydrogen;
- X is chloro, fluoro, hydroxy, hydrogen, lower alkyl, or lower alkoxy;
- Z is lower alkyl or hydrogen; and n is 1 or 2; with the proviso that at least one of X and Z is other than hydrogen.
- 12. The process according to claim 11 wherein alkyl is lower alkyl having 1-5 carbon atoms.
- 13. The process according to claim 12 wherein alkyl is methyl.
- 14. The process according to claim 11 wherein X is fluoro.
- 15. The process according to claim 11 wherein the compound has the formula: ##STR32## wherein X is fluoro, chloro, hydroxy, hydrogen, or lower alkyl and Z is lower alkyl or hydrogen with the proviso that at least one of X and Z is other than hydrogen.
- 16. The process according to claim 15 wherein the compound is: ##STR33##
- 17. The process according to claim 15 wherein the compound is: ##STR34##
- 18. The process according to claim 1, wherein the compound has the formula: ##STR35##
- 19. The process according to claim 1 wherein the compound has the formula: ##STR36##
