Claims
- 1. A method for providing real-time electronic conversations among trading partners, comprising:
storing the role of each trading partner and the rules for an electronic conversation in a collaboration space; allowing the trading partners to send and receive messages in the conversation through a collaboration hub via a hub transport in accordance with the rules and roles stored in collaboration space; and managing the conversation with conversation management software.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
storing a business model for the conversation in the collaboration space.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
providing a secure message space in the collaboration space adapted to allow trading partners to communicate via encrypted messages.
- 4. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
registering a trading partner in the collaboration space and assigning a role to that trading partner.
- 5. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
supporting multiple business method protocols for messages in a conversation.
- 6. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
creating a trading activity in the conversation.
- 7. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
supporting any number of trading partners in a conversation.
- 8. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
providing asynchronous messaging capabilities for messages between trading partners.
- 9. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
completing a conversation using the conversation management software.
- 10. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
storing and utilizing e-market metadata useful for a conversation.
- 11. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
storing a vocabulary for messages between trading partners.
- 12. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
establishing a context for a conversation.
- 13. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
managing concurrent conversations among trading partners in the collaboration space.
- 14. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
integrating business information and business logic from an external data system into the conversation.
- 15. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
allowing trading partners to send messages to, and receive messages from, the collaboration space via the Internet.
- 16. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
allowing trading partners to send messages to, and receive messages from, the collaboration space using existing information systems.
- 17. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
setting different roles for groups of trading partners, the groups selecting from customers, retailers, manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors.
- 18. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
allowing trading partners to join and leave a conversation.
- 19. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
utilizing data logic to intelligently transfer data according to specifications of each trading partner.
- 20. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
accessing the collaboration space by specifying a uniform resource locator for the collaboration space.
- 21. A method for allowing customers to participate in electronic trading activities via the Internet, comprising:
providing a conversation hub and conversation space to support the electronic trading; connecting the conversation space to the Internet and assigning a uniform resource locator to the conversation space; providing a business model and business rules for the electronic trading activities; allowing a customer to access the collaboration space through a uniform resource locator; and registering and setting a role for the customer in the collaboration space so the customer may participate in electronic trading activities in the collaboration space.
- 22. A method according to claim 21, further comprising:
automating the process for participating in electronic trading activities by allowing a customer to install lightweight trading software.
- 23. A method according to claim 21, further comprising:
providing a secure message space in the collaboration space to allow customers to engage in trading activities via encrypted messages.
- 24. A method according to claim 21, further comprising:
supporting multiple business method protocols for messages in the trading activites.
- 25. A method according to claim 21, further comprising:
providing asynchronous messaging capabilities for messages between customers.
- 26. A method according to claim 21, further comprising:
defining and storing a vocabulary for the electronic trading activities.
- 27. A method according to claim 21, further comprising:
establishing a vocabulary for the electronic trading activities.
- 28. A method according to claim 21, further comprising:
managing concurrent conversations among customers in the collaboration space.
- 29. A method for managing e-commerce transactions, comprising:
initiating an electronic conversation for supporting transactions; registering trading partners in the electronic conversation; and, storing conversation management data in a conversation repository.
- 30. A method according to claim 29, further comprising:
controlling the flow of conversation between the trading partners.
- 31. A method according to claim 29, further comprising:
establishing a publish/subscribe service for accepting messages and sending messages to and from trading partners.
- 32. A method according to claim 29, further comprising:
sending a message from a registered trading partner to the publish/subscribe service for distribution to one or more trading partners registered in the conversation.
- 33. A method according to claim 29, further comprising:
initiating a transaction by a trading partner authorized to initiate transactions in the conversation.
- 34. A method according to claim 29, further comprising:
providing asynchronous messaging capabilities for messages between trading partners.
- 35. A method according to claim 29, further comprising:
defining and storing a vocabulary for the e-commerce transactions.
- 36. A method according to claim 29, further comprising:
managing concurrent transactions among trading partners in the electronic conversation.
- 37. A method for supporting multiple business protocols in online trading, comprising:
providing a collaboration space to store the role and business method protocol of each trading partner participating in an online trading conversation; allowing the trading partners send messages to the online trading conversation via a collaboration hub any one of a plurality of business method protocols; managing the trading conversation with conversation management software adapted to handle multiple business method protocols; and sending the messages to each trading partner using the business method protocol stored for that trading partner.
- 38. A method according to claim 37, further comprising:
storing a business model for the online trading conversation in the collaboration space.
- 39. A method according to claim 37, further comprising:
providing asynchronous messaging capabilities for messages between trading partners.
- 40. A method according to claim 37, further comprising:
storing a vocabulary for messages between trading partners.
- 41. A method according to claim 37, further comprising:
allowing trading partners to send messages to, and receive messages from, the collaboration space using existing information systems.

utilizing data logic to intelligently transfer data according to specifications of each trading partner.
