Claims
- 1. A method for regulating intraocular pressure during endophthalmic surgery, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) monitoring fluid pressure in an aspiration line during aspiration of intraocular fluid; with a diaphragm disposed within the aspiration line; and
- (b) in response to a change in aspiration line fluid pressure moving the diaphragm to directly and abruptly change the aspiration line fluid pressure.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the step of monitoring fluid pressure comprises sensing movement of the diagram in response to the change in aspiration line fluid pressure.
- 3. The method according to claim 2 wherein the step of monitoring fluid pressure comprises sensing a drop in aspiration line fluid pressure and the step of abruptly changing the aspiration line fluid pressure by moving the diaphragm comprises increasing the aspiration line fluid pressure.
- 4. A method for regulating intraocular pressure during endophthalmic surgery, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) monitoring fluid pressure in an aspiration line during aspiration of intraocular fluid with a diaphragm disposed in the aspiration line;
- (b) in response to a drop in aspiration line fluid pressure, abruptly increasing the aspiration line fluid pressure by moving the diaphragm; and
- (c) increasing the aspiration line fluid pressure less abruptly than in step (b) by increasing the rotation of a peristaltic pump acting in the aspiration line.
- 5. A method for regulating intraocular pressure during endophthalmic surgery, said method comprising the steps of:
- a) monitoring fluid pressure in an aspiration line during aspiration of intraocular fluid using a first diaphragm disposed in the aspiration line; and
- b) in response to a change in aspiration line fluid pressure, abruptly changing the aspiration line fluid pressure by moving a second diaphragm disposed in the aspiration line.
- 6. The method according to claim 5 wherein the step of monitoring fluid pressure comprises sensing movement of the first diaphragm in response to the change in aspiration line fluid pressure.
- 7. The method according to claim 6 wherein the step of monitoring fluid pressure comprises sensing a drop in aspiration line fluid pressure and the step of abruptly changing the aspiration line fluid pressure by moving the second diaphragm comprises increasing the aspiration line fluid pressure.
- 8. The method according to claim 7 further comprises the step of:
- c) increasing the aspiration line fluid pressure less abruptly than in step (b) by increasing the rotation of a peristaltic pump acting in the aspiration line.
