Claims
- 1. A method for removing an undesired portion of an appendage having opposing sides from avian species which comprises making electrical contact with each of said opposing sides and burning a hole through said appendage by passing an electric current between said electrical contacts such that the undesired portion will later be rejected.
- 2. A method for removing an undesired portion of an appendage from avian species such as debeaking fowl, which comprises simultaneously burning and cauterizing a hole through said appendage such that the undesired portion will later be rejected.
- 3. A method for removing an undesired portion of an appendage from avian species which comprises applying sufficient energy directly through the interior of the appendage between opposite surfaces thereof to selectively damage an interior portion of the appendage such that the undesired portion will later be rejected.
- 4. A method as defined in claim 3 wherein said avian species is a chicken and said energy applied between the opposite surfaces of said appendage burns a hole therethrough.
- 5. A method as defined in claim 3 wherein said avian species is a turkey and said energy applied between the opposite surfaces of said appendage burns a hole therethrough.
- 6. A method as defined in claim 3 wherein said appendage is the upper beak.
- 7. A method as defined in claim 3 wherein said appendage is the lower beak.
- 8. A method as defined in claim 3 wherein said appendage is the upper and lower beak.
