Claims
- 1. A method for removing camber from strip preparatory to forming helical pipe, comprising:
- feeding the strip longitudinally along a directional line of feed contacting the surface of the strip between its lateral edges to sense lateral deviations of the strip relative to the directional line of feed, laterally moving and realigning the strip in response to lateral deviations, and severing the side edges of the strip on lines parallel with the directional line of feed.
- 2. A method for removing camber from strip preparatory to forming helical pipe comprising:
- feeding the strip longitudinally along a directional reference line, contacting the surface of the strip on said directional reference line with an object, sensing lateral deviations of the object relative to the directional reference line, laterally moving the strip to reposition the object on or proximate to the directional reference line, and severing the side edges of the strip on lines parallel with the directional reference line as said strip passes through a slitter station.
- 3. A method for removing camber from strip preparatory to forming helical pipe comprising:
- feeding the strip longitudinally along a pair of directional reference lines, said lines being parallel or coincident, contacting the surface of the strip on each directional reference line with an object, sensing lateral deviations of each object relative to the directional reference line to which it has reference, laterally moving the strip in a direction tending to reposition the objects on or proximate to the associated directional line, and severing the side edges of said strip on lines parallel with said pair of directional reference lines as said strip passes through a slitter station.
