Claims
- 1. A method for treating fabrics comprising the steps of:a) contacting said fabrics, in the presence of water or a solvent which generates heat under microwave radiation, with a treating composition comprising from about 0.1% to about 10% of an effective diacyl peroxide bleaching agent about 6% to about 45% of a surfactant and from; b) subjecting said fabric to microwaves for a sufficient period of time effectively treat said fabric.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein said fabric is treated for one or more of the following: stain removal, stain reducing, deodorizing, or disinfecting.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein said microwaves have an electromagnetic radiation wavelength of from about 1 cm to about 1 m.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein said treating composition further comprises one or more of the following: surfactant, solvent, clay, polycarboxylate thickeners, baking soda, carbonates, phosphates, hydrobenzoic acid, dicarboxylic acid, siloxanes, perfumes, bleach catalysts, and mixtures thereof.
- 5. A method according to claim 1 wherein said diacyl peroxides are selected from the group consisting dibenzoyl peroxide, dianisoyl peroxide, benzoyl gluaryl peroxide, benzoyl succinyl peroxide, di-(2-methybenzoyl) peroxide, diphthaloyl peroxide, dinaphthoyl peroxide, substituted dinaphthoyl peroxide, and mixtures thereof.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 wherein said treating composition is a sprayable liquid or sprayable gel detergent composition especially effective at cleaning stains, deodorizing, and/or disinfecting fabric, comprising by weight:(a) from about 0.1% to about 10% of a bleaching agent selected from the group consisting of: i) diacyl peroxide having the general formula: RC(O)OO(O)CR1 wherein R and R1 are hydrocarbyls and can be the same or different;(b) from 0% to about 95% of a nonaqueous solvent; (c) from about 6% to about 45% of a surfactant; and (d) from 0% to about 7% of a thickener.
- 7. A method according to claim 1 wherein said treating composition is a gel detergent composition especially effective at cleaning stains and tough food soil from fabrics, comprising by weight:(a) from about 0.1% to about 10% of diacyl peroxide having the general formula: RC(O)OO(CR1 wherein R and R1 are hydrocabyls and can be the same or different;(b) from 6% to about 45% of a surfactant; and (c) from 0% to about 7% of a thickener; said composition having a neat pH of from about 3 to about 10; and such that said diacyl peroxide remains undissolved in said compositions.
- 8. A method according to claim 1 wherein said sufficient time in step b) is from about 1 second to about 2 minutes.
- 9. A method according to claim 8 wherein said time in step b) is from about 10 seconds to about 45 seconds.
- 10. A method according to claim 4 wherein said treating composition is a sprayable liquid.
- 11. A method for deodorizing a fabric having an odor, said method comprises:a) contacting, in the presence of water or a solvent which generates heat under microwave radiation, said fabric with a detergent composition comprising from about 0.1% about 10% of a diacyl peroxide bleaching agent from about 6% to about 45% of a surfactant; b) subjecting said fabric of Step a) to microwaves for a sufficient time to lessen the odors associated with said fabric.
- 12. A method for disinfecting an infected fabric, said method comprising:a) contacting, in the presence of water or a solvent which generates heat under microwave radiation, said fabric with a detergent composition comprising from about 0.1% about 10% of a diacyl peroxide bleaching agent an from about 6% to about 45% of a surfactant; b) subjecting said fabric of Step a) to microwaves for a sufficient time to lessen the infecting agents associated with said fabric.
- 13. A product comprising a treating composition comprising from about 0.1% about 10% of a diacyl peroxide bleaching agent from about 6% to about 45% of a surfactant and instructions for use of the treating composition, said instructions include the steps of:a) contacting a fabric, in the presence of water or a solvent which generates heat under microwave radiation, with said treating composition; and b) subjecting said fabric to microwaves for a sufficient period to effectively treat said fabric.
- 14. A method for reducing or removing stains from a stained fabric comprising the steps of:a) contacting, in the presence of water or a solvent which generates heat under microwave radiation, said stained fabric with a detergent composition comprising from about 0.1% about 10% of a diacyl peroxide bleaching agent and from about 6% to about 45% of a surfactant; b) subjecting said stained fabric of Step a) to microwaves for a sufficient period to reduce or remove said stain from said fabric.
- 15. A method according to claim 14 wherein said stains are hydrophobic.
- 16. A method according to claim 15 wherein said stains are hydrophobic and said fabric is hydrophobic.
- 17. A method according to claim 15 wherein said stains are hydrophilic.
- 18. A method according to claim 17 wherein said stains are hydrophilic and said fabric is hydrophilic.
