- 7. The method according to claim 6, wherein said protected neuraminic acid or sialic acid sulfone or phosphite are represented by formula (I): wherein R1 is an aryl sulfone, heteroaromatic sulfone or dialkyl phosphite group; R2 independently is any group or atom which does not hinder the reaction; R3 is any group or atom which does not hinder the reaction; and X is oxygen, alkylamine, arylamine, methylene or substituted methylene.
- 8. The method according to claim 6, wherein said protected neuraminic acid or sialic acid sulfone or phosphite are represented by any one of the following formulae: wherein R1, R2, R3 and X have the same meanings as in Formula (I).
- 9. The method according to claim 6, wherein the c-glycosides contain a quaternary carbon.
- 10. A method for synthesizing C-glycosides of 3-deoxy-D-mannooctulosonic acid comprising the step of reacting a protected 3-deoxy-D-mannooctulosonic acid sulfone or phosphite with an aldehyde or ketone compound in the presence of a lanthanide metal halide.
- 11. The method according to claim 10, wherein the c-glycosides contain a quaternary carbon.
- 12. The method according to claim 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 or 8, wherein said aldehyde or ketone is represented by any one of the following formulae: wherein R3, R4, R5 and X have the same meanings as in Formula (I) and Formula (II).
- 13. A samarium III adduct of an ulosonic acid.
