Claims
- 1. A method for the formation of thin hydrophilic layers on the surface of an object made from non-hydrophilic polymers, containing units selected from the group consisting of esters of acrylic acid, esters of methacrylic acid, nitriles of acrylic acid, nitriles of methacrylic acid, and combinations thereof, by means of hydrolysis with strong acids, comprising immersing said objects into a heated strong acid containing a previously dissolved electrolyte which alone does not react with the polymer.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein a stable salt of the strong acid is used as the electrolyte.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the surface of the object is also treated under heating with a multifunctional alcohol containing at least two primary or secondary alcohol groups in the molecule.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the surface of the object is treated under heating with a multifunctional alcohol, the primary or secondary alcohol groups of which were previously at least in part esterified with a weaker acid than the acid used for hydrolysis.
- 5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the object made from non-hydrophilic polymers is also successively treated with hydrolytic agents in at least two steps, which causes a more extensive hydrolysis on the surface of the hydrophilic layer than in its depth.
- 6. The method of claim 2 wherein the strong acid containing the dissolved electrolyte is an alkaline hydrogen sulfate in at least 50% sulfuric acid.
- 7. The method of claim 3 wherein the treatment with the alcohol is performed subsequent to immersion into the strong acid containing the electrolyte.
- 8. The method of claim 3 wherein the treatment with the alcohol is performed at the same time as the immersion into the strong acid containing the electrolyte.
- 9. The method of claim 4 wherein the treatment with the at least partially esterified alcohol is performed subsequent to immersion into the strong acid containing the electrolyte.
- 10. The method of claim 4 wherein the treatment with the at least partially esterified alcohol is performed at the same time as immersion into the strong acid containing the electrolyte.
