Claims
- 1. A method for the hydration of acrylonitrile to acrylamide comprising the step of carrying out the reaction by starting with an aqueous reaction mixture in which the ratio of water to acrylonitrile is in the range of from 1 to 30 mols of water per mol of acrylonitrile, at a temperature in the range of from 20.degree. C. to 200.degree. C. and in the presence of a catalyst based on copper obtained by reacting an organic chelate of copper with an aluminum alkyl and/or hydride.
- 2. A method for the hydration of acrylonitrile to acrylamide as claimed in claim 1, wherein the reaction is carried out at a temperature in the range from 20.degree. C. to 200.degree. C.
- 3. A method for the hydration of acrylonitrile to acrylamide as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concentration of acrylonitrile is in the range of from 5% to 50% on a weight basis.
- 4. A method for the hydration of acrylonitrile as claimed in claim 1, wherein the reaction takes place at a ratio between a solution of the acrylonitrile and the catalyst which is in the range of from 50 to 1 and 2 to 1.
