Claims
- 1. A process for producing a Wittig ester salt of the formula:
- Cl-(C.sub.6 H.sub.5).sub.3 P+CH.sub.2 CH.dbd.C(CH.sub.3)COORI'
- wherein R is C.sub.1-4 -alkyl,
- which process comprises reacting a compound of the formula:
- CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHC(Cl)( CH.sub.3)COOR IV
- wherein R is as in formula I', with triphenylphosphine dissolved in an organic solvent to obtain said Wittig ester salt.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said reaction is carried out in the temperature range of from about 90.degree. C. to about 150.degree. C.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the organic solvent is a mononuclear aromatic solvent, a dialkyl ketone or an alkyl alkanoate.
- 4. The process of claim 3 wherein the organic solvent is a mononuclear aromatic solvent selected from the group consisting of benzene, toluene and xylene.
- 5. The process of claim 3 wherein the organic solvent is methyl isobutyl ketone.
- 6. The process of claim 3 wherein the organic solvent is an alkyl alkanoate selected from the group consisting of ethyl n-butyrate and ethyl isobutytate.
- 7. A compound of the formula:
- CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHC(Cl)(CH.sub.3)COOR IV
- wherein R is C.sub.1-4 -alkyl.
- 8. The compound of claim 7 wherein R is ethyl.
