Claims
- 1. A method of treating a Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst selected from the group consisting of coke-contaminated catalysts and fresh catalysts comprising the steps of:
- (a) substantially removing all of the coke from said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst when said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst is a coke-contaminated catalyst;
- (b) redispersing the Group VIII noble metal(s) by oxychlorination treatment, said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst being contacted in a reaction vessel with a halogen or halide containing gas with a source of oxygen present;
- (c) stabilizing said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst by treatment with an inert or oxygen containing gas;
- (d) substantially removing carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide so that the amount of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the reaction vessel during the reduction step (e) is less than 0.05 kPa partial pressure;
- (e) chemically reducing said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein following the reduction step (e), said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst is not exposed to carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide in an amount greater than 0.05 kPa partial pressure before said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst is employed in a hydrocarbon conversion process.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein the reaction vessel is purged with an inert gas prior to the chemical reduction step (e).
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst comprises a Group VIII noble metal and a support selected from the group consisting of inorganic oxides, zeolites, clays, and mixtures thereof.
- 5. A method according to claim 4 wherein said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst further comprises a binder selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, and clay.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 wherein said Group VIII noble metal -containing catalyst further comprises rhenium.
- 7. A method according to claim 5 wherein said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst comprises platinum, L zeolite, and a binder.
- 8. A method according to claim 1 wherein said chemical reduction step (e) comprises hydrogen reduction.
- 9. A method for treating a fresh Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst comprising a chemical reduction step which is carried out in less than 0.05 kPa partial pressure of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
- 10. A method according to claim 9 wherein said chemical reduction step comprises hydrogen reduction.
- 11. A method according to claim 9 wherein said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst comprises a Group VIII noble metal and a support selected from the group consisting of zeolites, inorganic oxides, and clays.
- 12. A method according to claim 11 wherein said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst further comprises a binder selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, and clay.
- 13. A method according to claim 9 wherein said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst further comprises rhenium.
- 14. A method according to claim 12 wherein said Group VIII noble metal-containing catalyst comprises platinum, L zeolite, and a binder.
