Claims
- 1. A method to prevent or alleviate the symptoms of acute mountain sickness comprising administering ribose an amount of ribose to a mammal effective to prevent or alleviate said symptoms.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the subject is a human.
- 3. The method according to claim 2 wherein ribose is administered in a dosage of about 0.1 to 30 grams.
- 4. The method according to claim 2 wherein ribose is administered in a dosage of about three to ten grams.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein ribose is administered one to four times daily for a period of five days.
- 6. A unit dosage form comprising about 0.1 to 30 gm ribose in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle, adapted for oral ingestion.
- 7. The unit dosage form of claim 6 wherein the vehicle is a liquid.
- 8. The unit dosage form of claim 6 wherein the liquid is an aqueous liquid.
- 9. The unit dosage form of claim 6 wherein the vehicle is a solid or semi-solid edible vehicle.
