Claims
- 1. A method for treating waste water containing phosphate and at least one nutrient selected from the group consisting of nitrates and nitrites comprising treating the waste water with a metal hydroxide complex as an adsorbent represented by formula (1):
- M.sub.1-x.sup.2+ M.sub.x.sup.3+ (OH.sup.-).sub.2+x-y (A.sup.n-).sub.y/n( 1)
- wherein M.sup.2+ represents at least one divalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Mg.sup.2+, Ni.sup.2+, Zn.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, Ca.sup.2+ and Cu.sup.2+, M.sup.3+ represents at least one trivalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Al.sup.3+ and Fe.sup.3+, A.sup.n- represents n-valent anion, 0.1.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.5, 0.1.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.0.5 and n is 1 or 2 to adsorb phosphate and at least one other nutrient selected from the group consisting of nitrates and nitrites.
- 2. A method for treating phosphate-containing waste water comprising treating the waste water containing phosphate nutrient comprising treating the waste water with a metal hydroxide complex as an adsorbent represented by formula (1):
- M.sub.1-x.sup.2+ M.sub.x.sup.3+ (OH.sup.-).sub.2+x-y (A.sup.n-).sub.y/n( 1)
- wherein M.sup.2+ represents at least one divalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Mg.sup.2+, Ni.sup.2+, Zn.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, Ca.sup.2+ and Cu.sup.2+, M.sup.3+ represents at least one trivalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Al.sup.3+ and Fe.sup.3+, A.sup.n- represents n-valent anion, 0.1<x<0.5, 0.1<y<0.5 and n is 1 or 2 to adsorb phosphate, and further treating the phosphate-adsorbed product with at least one phosphate desorbing agent selected from the group consisting of alkali metal and alkaline earth salts other than carbonates to regenerate the phosphate adsorbent.
- 3. A method for treating the phosphate-containing waste water with a metal hydroxide complex as an adsorbent represented by formula (1):
- M.sub.1-x.sup.2+ M.sub.x.sup.3+ (OH.sup.-).sub.2+x-y (A.sup.n-).sub.y/n( 1)
- wherein M.sup.2+ represents at least one divalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Mg.sup.2+, Ni.sup.2+, Zn.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, Ca.sup.2+ and Cu.sup.2+, M.sup.3+ represents at least one trivalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Al.sup.3+ and Fe.sup.3+, A.sup.n- represents n-valent anion, 0.1<x<0.5, 0.1<y<0.5 and n is 1 or 2 to adsorb phosphate, and further comprising treating the phosphate-adsorbed product with an aqueous solution containing an alkali metal carbonate or A.sup.n- ion to desorb and recover phosphates and calcining the treated adsorbent at between about 430 and about 600.degree. C. to produce the corresponding metal hydroxide complex.
- 4. A method according to claim 3 further comprising treating the metal hydroxide complex with at least one agent selected from the group consisting of alkali metal and alkaline earth salts other than the carbonates.
- 5. A method for according to claim 3 further comprising dissolving the metal hydroxide complex in an acid solution.
- 6. A method for treating phosphate-containing waste water with a metal hydroxide complex as a phosphate adsorbent represented by formula (1):
- M.sub.1-x.sup.2+ M.sub.x.sup.3+ (OH.sup.-).sub.2+x-y (A.sup.n-).sub.y/n( 1)
- wherein M.sup.2+ represents at least one divalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Mg.sup.2+, Ni.sup.2+, Zn.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, Ca.sup.2+ and Cu.sup.2+, M.sup.3+ represents at least one trivalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Al.sup.3+ and Fe.sup.3+, A.sup.n- represents n-valent anion, 0.1.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.5, 0.1.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.0.5 and n is 1 or 2 to absorb phosphate, and further comprising treating the phosphate-adsorbed product with an aqueous solution containing an alkali metal carbonate or A.sup.n- to desorb and recover phosphates and dissolving the treated adsorbent in an acid solution.
