Claims
- 1. An improved method of treating a water solution of a waste material containing a salt having smelt-water explosion characteristics, said method including the steps of spraying the waste solution into an open-bottomed incinerator, producing a combustion of a fuel in said incinerator to heat the spray of the waste solution to a temperature at which the water in the sprayed solution is vaporized and the salt contained in the sprayed solution is fused, causing at least a part of the fused salt to form a layer on the inner surface of said incinerator, allowing the fused salt in said layer to flow downwardly by gravity through the open bottom of said incinerator, and cooling the fused salt to a temperature at which no explosion occurs, wherein the improvement comprises:
- establishing an inclined flow of cooling water which is disposed below said open bottom of said incinerator and intersects the vertical axis of said open bottom so that the fused salt falls down onto said inclined water flow and which is of a depth ranging from 05. to 5.0 mm, the angle of inclination of said water flow relative to the horizontal ranging from 5.degree. to 60.degree..
