Claims
- 1. A method for treating a patient comprising:
introducing the patient to a treatment regime wherein magnesium dosage levels increase gradually over time from about 400 mg elemental magnesium/day to between about 600 mg and about 5000 mg/day elemental magnesium wherein each daily dosage amount is divided into several doses throughout the day; and maintaining a well-tolerated high-level dosage until beneficial results are obtained.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein doses are administered every 2-6 hours.
- 3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the magnesium is available from at least one of the compounds selected from the group consisting of magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, magnesium protein product, and magnesium oxide.
- 4. The method according to claim 1 wherein solid forms of magnesium are first crushed for dispersion in water.
- 5. The method according to claim 1 wherein magnesium is available from intravenous grade magnesium sulfate or chloride diluted with water and taken orally.
- 6. The method according to claim 1 wherein the daily dose is unevenly divided, with larger doses being given when sympathetic activity is highest.
- 7. A method of treating a patient comprising the steps of:
administering to a patient approximately 2-12 times the daily RDA of magnesium, divided over several daily administrations.
- 8. The method according to claim 6 wherein said magnesium is available from the group consisting of magnesium oxide, magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, and magnesium protein product.
- 9. A method for reducing the pain associated with EM, CRPS1, CIPD, or other chronic disorders comprising orally administering to a patient at least 1 gram of a magnesium compound per day.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein the magnesium compound is selected from the group consisting of magnesium sulfate, magnesium oxide, magnesium chloride, and magnesium carbonate.
- 11. The method of claim 9 wherein the magnesium compound is in a solution.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein at least 2.5 grams of magnesium compound is administered per day.
- 13. The method of claim 11 wherein at least 3 grams of magnesium compound is administered per day.
