Claims
- 1. A scroll compressor comprising:
a first scroll member having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from said base; a second scroll member having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from its base, a shaft for driving said second scroll member to orbit relative to said first scroll member; a housing enclosing said shaft and said first and second scroll members and a crankcase, said housing including a center shell and upper and lower end caps; said lower end cap mounting a bearing for supporting a lower end of said shaft and said bearing bore and said crankcase mounting an upper bearing for supporting an upper end of said shaft; and said lower end cap mounting a bearing through a bearing hub, said bearing hub machined to be concentric with an alignment surface between said center shell and said lower end cap.
- 2. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 1, wherein said alignment surface is formed by an integral portion of said lower end cap.
- 3. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 1, wherein said alignment surface is provided by a member attached to said lower end cap.
- 4. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 3, wherein said alignment surface is provided by a weld ring positioned at a location spaced radially outwardly from said bearing housing.
- 5. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 4, wherein said weld ring is formed by a portion of circumferentially spaced weld ring segments.
- 6. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 4, wherein said weld ring is a circular item extending circumferentially about a central axis of said scroll compressor.
- 7. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 3, wherein said bearing hub and said alignment surface are provided by a single part.
- 8. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 7, wherein said single part has radially outwardly extending fingers extending radially outwardly from said bearing hub.
- 9. A method of aligning a lower bearing to be concentric with a central housing in a scroll compressor comprising the steps of:
providing a lower housing, and a bearing bore; attaching an outer element to said lower housing, and attaching a bearing to a generally central surface; and machining concentric circular surfaces on an outer surface of said outer element and a bearing bore in said bearing.
- 10. A method as set forth in claim 9, wherein said bearing and said outer element are provided by a single part.
- 11. A method as set forth in claim 9, wherein said outer element and said bearing are separate.
