Claims
- 1. A method of delivering screw members from a hopper member to a remote location, that is downward of said hopper member, where they are driven into a door and a door jamb to secure a hinge member thereto, said hinge member having a post and opposing flaps, comprising the steps of:
- lifting individual screw members from a pile of screw members retained within said hopper member;
- aligning said screw members into a plurality of queues;
- fixedly position a plurality of downwardly extending conduit means between said queued screw members and the remote location;
- transferring individual screw members from the queues by blowing said screw members through said conduit means;
- positioning a head member having a plurality of screw-receiving chambers formed therein at the discharge end of said conduit means;
- moving said head member from a first, upper and outward position, relative to said remote location, said first position being contiguous to said discharge end of said conduit means to a second, downward and inward position contiguous to said remote location;
- driving said screw members into said door and door jamb when said head member is in its second position;
- locking said head member against further movement when said head member is in its second position; and
- accomplishing said locking of said head member by pivotally mounting said head member to a lower end of a lever means having a fulcrum so that when said lower end of said lever means is in its downwardmost and inwardmost position, said fulcrum is upward and outward of said lower end of said lever means and thus holds said head member against upward and rearward movement relative to said remote location.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
- employing a motor means to rotate a plurality of screw driving means to accomplish the driving of said screw members into said door and door jamb;
- mounting said motor means for conjoint movement with said head means;
- reciprocating said motor means inwardly and outwardly with respect to said head member during each cycle of machine operation, said reciprocation effecting conjoint reciprocation of said screw driving means;
- and positioning said screw driving means into alignment with said screw-receiving chambers formed in said head member so that inward reciprocation of said motor means effects insertion of said screw driving means into said chambers and hence expulsion of said screw members therefrom.
- 3. The method of claim 2, further comprising the step of:
- centering the screw members driven by said screw driving means with respect to screw-receiving openings formed in the flaps of a hinge to be secured to said door and door jamb.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of accomplishing said centering by positioning in a circumferentially spaced configuration a plurality of centering members at a discharge end of said screw-receiving chambers.
- 5. The method of claim 4, further comprising the step of positioning a hinge member to be secured to said door and door jamb in a preselected position so that it is in registration with the door and door jamb and in registration with the screw members to be driven into said door and door jamb through screw-receiving openings formed in said hinge member.
- 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising the steps of:
- forming a hinge-receiving slot in said head means;
- forming a pair of inwardly sloping wall members on opposite sides of said slot;
- and positioning a hinge member so that its post is received within said slot and its opposing flaps overlie said walls.
- 7. The method of claim 6, further comprising the step of maintaining said hinge member against movement after it has been properly positioned with respect to said slot and said sloping walls.
- 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising the step of positioning a magnet means under each of said walls so that a magnetic field retains said hinge member flaps against said walls.
