Claims
- 1. A method of producing a dental prophylaxis angle comprising a step of molding a one-piece body part, including a sleeve, a neck, a head, and a continuous opening extending from a rearward end of the sleeve through the neck and into the head, the continuous opening having a reduced diameter bearing portion in the neck, a forward end of the reduced diameter bearing portion forming a forwardly facing shoulder in the one-piece body part, the shoulder being rearward of the head; a step of molding a drive part including a shaft and a forward part, the forward part having a larger diameter than the shaft; and a step of inserting the drive part shaft-first through the head into the continuous opening until the forward part of the drive part abuts the forwardly facing shoulder.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further including a step of snapping a cap to the head of the one-piece body, the cap and the head of the one-piece body forming a head of the prophylaxis angle.
- 3. The method of claim 2 including a step of forming the cap separate from the one-piece body.
- 4. The method of claim 2 wherein the forward part of the drive part is a drive gear, the method including a step of forming a driven part including a driven gear and a shaft, and a step of inserting the driven part into the head of the one-piece body until the driven gear is in operative engagement with the drive gear.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the cap and body are molded of one plastic material, and wherein the drive part and the driven part are formed of a different plastic material.
- 6. The method of claim 4 wherein the head of the one-piece body includes an aperture at a forward end thereof, the step of inserting the drive part comprising inserting the drive part through the aperture.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein the step of snapping a cap to the head of the one-piece body closes the aperture at the forward end of the head of the one-piece body.
- 8. The method of claim 6 wherein the head of the one-piece body includes a wall extending around the driven part when the driven part is inserted into the head, the wall including the aperture, the step of snapping the cap to the head of the one-piece body comprising inserting a part of the cap inside the wall.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the step of snapping the cap to the head of the one-piece body comprises snapping a latch on the cap into the aperture.
- 10. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of snapping the cap to the head of the one-piece body comprises snapping a latch on the cap into an aperture in the head of the one-piece body.
- 11. A method of producing a dental prophylaxis angle comprising:
- molding a one-piece body part including at least a sleeve, a neck forward of the sleeve, at least a part of a first bearing, and a continuous opening extending from a rearward end of the sleeve through the neck, the continuous opening having a reduced diameter bearing portion in the neck, a forward end of the reduced diameter bearing portion forming a forwardly facing shoulder in the one-piece body part;
- molding a drive part including a shaft and a forward part, the forward part having a larger diameter than the shaft, the forward part comprising a drive gear;
- molding a driven part including a driven gear and a shaft;
- inserting the drive part shaft-first into the continuous opening in the one-piece body until the forward part of the drive part abuts the forwardly facing shoulder; and
- placing the driven gear in operative engagement with the drive gear, the step of placing the driven gear in operative engagement with the drive gear comprising placing the shaft of the driven part in the at least a part of a first bearing in the one-piece body.
- 12. The method of claim 11 further comprising a step of snapping a cap to the one-piece body, the cap locking the driven part in the prophy angle.
- 13. The method of claim 12 including a step of molding the cap separate from the one-piece body.
- 14. The method of claim 12 wherein the cap and body are molded of one plastic material, and wherein the drive part and the driven part are molded of a different plastic material.
