Claims
- 1. A method of assembling an air cleaner arrangement comprising:(a) providing a tubular metal housing including an air inlet tube; the tubular metal housing defining a central region and having an open first end and an open second end; (b) securing a plastic end cap having a planar base member in covering relation to the first end of the tubular metal housing by indenting a plurality of projections in the tubular metal housing toward the plastic end cap; (i) the plastic end cap including an exterior surface, an air outlet tube, and a first radial ring; the step of securing including orienting the air outlet tube into the central region and the first radial ring to project into the central region; and (c) positioning a cover member to cover the tubular metal housing second end.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 further including:(a) providing the cover member with a plurality of latches for selective engagement with a portion of the tubular metal housing.
- 3. A method according to claim 2 further including:(a) removing the cover member from the tubular metal housing; and (b) inserting a filter element through the second end of the tubular metal housing.
- 4. A method of assembling an air cleaner arrangement comprising:(a) providing a tubular metal housing including a first airflow tube; the tubular metal housing defining a central region and having at least a first end that is open; (b) securing a plastic end cap having a planar base member in covering relation to the first end of the tubular metal housing by indenting a plurality of projections in the tubular metal housing toward the plastic end cap; and (i) the plastic end cap including an exterior surface, a second airflow tube, and a first radial ring; the step of securing including orienting the second airflow tube into the central region and the first radial ring to project into the central region.
- 5. A method according to claim 4 wherein:(a) the plastic end cap further includes a second radial ring; the first and second radial rings being concentrically disposed relative to each other; and (b) said step of securing includes orienting the plastic end cap such that both of the first and second radial rings project into the central region.
- 6. A method according to claim 5 wherein:(a) said step of providing includes providing a tubular metal housing having a second end that is open; and the method further comprising a step of:(b) positioning a cover member to cover the tubular metal housing second end.
- 7. A method according to claim 6 wherein:(a) said step of positioning a cover member comprises latching the cover member to the second end.
- 8. A method according to claim 7 further including:(a) inserting a filter element through the housing second end.
- 9. A method according to claim 8 further including:(a) sealing the filter element against the second airflow tube of the plastic end cap.
- 10. A method according to claim 8 further including:(a) positioning the filter element between the second airflow tube and the second radial ring.
- 11. A method according to claim 8 wherein:(a) said step of inserting a filter element is conducted before said step of positioning a cover member.
- 12. A method according to claim 5 wherein:(a) said step of securing includes indenting a plurality of projections in the tubular metal housing toward the first radial ring.
- 13. A method according to claim 4 wherein:(a) said step of securing includes indenting a plurality of projections in the tubular metal housing toward the first radial ring.
- 14. A method according to claim 13 wherein:(a) said step of securing includes indenting a plurality of projections in the tubular metal housing toward recesses in the first radial ring.
